On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Trauma-related dispatch criteria for Helicopter Emergency Medical Services in Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) are used worldwide in order to provide potentially life-saving pre-hospital medical support to trauma patients at the accident scene. It is currently unclear how much overlap exists regarding the

Cervical Spine Motion During Extrication: A Pilot Study

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2009
Spinal immobilization is one of the most commonly performed pre-hospital procedures. Little research has been done on the movement of the neck during immobilization and extrication. In this study we used a sophisticated infrared six-camera motion-capture

Influence of Soil and Pore Water Parameters on the Process of Lifting an Axisymmetric Object from a Sandy Seabed Surface

open access: yesPolish Maritime Research
The removal of subsea objects from the seabed is a crucial challenge for the offshore industry, necessitating the accurate prediction of pull-out resistance from an engineering perspective. To address this problem, a parametric analysis was undertaken to

Post-ecdysis behavior of exarate adults in Drosophila melanogaster and Ceratitis capitata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The life cycle (LC) of cyclorrhaphans follows a well-conserved developmental program in which the different instars and stages within instars show a similar sequence of events (Denlinger and Žđárek, 1994).

A Vascular Microphysiological Model of Lung Fibrosis Reveals That Myofibroblasts and IPF Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts Impair Angiogenesis and Vasculogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A microphysiological lung fibrosis model recapitulates myofibroblast–vascular interactions. Induced myofibroblasts and patient‐derived IPF fibroblasts impair angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability via TGF‐β1–driven signaling. Pharmacological interventions with SB 431542 and VEGF supplementation restore vascular morphology and barrier function.

Reducing Open‐Circuit Voltage Losses in Wide‐Bandgap FAPbBr3 Perovskite Solar Cells for Continuous Unassisted Light‐Driven Water Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The combination of formamidinium thiocyanate and 1,3‐propane diammonium iodide for bulk and top‐surface passivation, and a ternary fullerene blend to improve energy band alignment, suppresses energy losses in wide‐bandgap FAPbBr3 perovskite solar cells.
