Vitreous potassium concentration as a predictor of postmortem interval: A cross-sectional study among poisoning and burns cases at a tertiary care center in rural Haryana

open access: yesJournal of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, 2015
Background: Time since death (TSD) is an important parameter to the forensic expert. Only a few studies are available in the literature to determine the relationship between vitreous K + concentration and TSD, especially among poisoning and burns cases ...

Soft Phonon Anomalies in the Relaxor Ferroelectric Pb(Zn_1/3Nb_2/3)_0.92Ti_0.08O_3

open access: yes, 2000
Neutron inelastic scattering measurements of the polar TO phonon mode dispersion in the cubic relaxor Pb(Zn_1/3Nb_2/3)_0.92Ti_0.08O_3 at 500K reveal anomalous behavior in which the optic branch appears to drop precipitously into the acoustic branch at a ...

AGEs in human lens capsule promote the TGFβ2-mediated EMT of lens epithelial cells:Implications for age-associated fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Proteins in basement membrane (BM) are long-lived and accumulate chemical modifications during aging; advanced glycation end-product (AGE) formation is one such modification. The human lens capsule is a BM secreted by lens epithelial cells. In this study,

Topological Point Defects in SmC* Liquid Crystals Under Mechanical Disturbance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Tangetial air jet shear inducess island formation and nucleates topological point defects in uniform SmC films. Island bounded by edge dislocation loops shrink and transform into isolated point defects under continued shear. Mechanical perturbatio provides a controllable route for defect engineering in smectric liquid crystal thin films.

Phosducin regulates the expression of transducin betagamma subunits in rod photoreceptors and does not contribute to phototransduction adaptation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
For over a decade, phosducin's interaction with the betagamma subunits of the G protein, transducin, has been thought to contribute to light adaptation by dynamically controlling the amount of transducin heterotrimer available for activation by ...
