Manual Enucleation of Both Eyes During Assault

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2006
Abstract. Manual enucleation of the eyeball from the orbit during physical assault is rare. Management includes removal of such sighdess eyeballs when the optic nerve and extraocular muscles are avulsed. However, other authors recommend replacement of these eyeballs even though visual prognosis is nil and phthisis bulbi is expected.

RETINAL ADHESIVENESS IN SURGICALLY ENUCLEATED HUMAN EYES

Retina, 1994
Retinal adhesion in rabbits and monkeys has been shown to involve the interphotoreceptor matrix and depend on environmental factors, such as temperature, pH, and calcium concentration. This study was designed to see whether these same factors modulate retinal adhesiveness in humans.Four surgically enucleated human eyes were studied.

[Histological workup of enucleated eyes].

Der Pathologe, 2016
The appraisal of enucleated eyes presents a particular challenge to pathologists. In German-speaking countries, this task has mostly been in the hands of ophthalmologists. It requires particular ophthalmologic knowledge including nosology, implants, surgical procedures, and nomenclature.

[Histological diagnostics of enucleated eyes].

Der Pathologe, 2016
Enucleated eyeglobes represent a challenge for the pathologist, as their appraisal requires specific ophthalmological knowledge. Part 1 of this CME article dealt with macroscopic findings in eyeglobes, in order to facilitate adequate cutting planes to retrieve pathologies histologically.

Experimental Aqueous Perfusion in Enucleated Human Eyes

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1963
Aqueous perfusion is a convenient and direct means for quantitative evaluation of facility of aqueous outflow (C) in enucleated eyes. The C value is obtained by simple calculation from the rate of injection (F) of saline solution and from the steady state pressure (P) induced in the eye.

Assaultive eye injury and enucleation.

The journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, 2000
An especially dangerous behavior observed in some forensic and security hospital populations is assaultive eye gouging. Although a number of case reports in the literature concern auto-enucleation, gouging out the eyes of another is virtually unmentioned.

[Phantom pain after eye enucleation].

Der Ophthalmologe : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 2004
Phantom pain is a well known and extensively documented complication after limb amputation. Nearly all surgical disciplines have to deal with phantom symptoms related to different anatomical regions and organs but limited data is available about phantom eye pain (PEP) after enucleation. Only one pilot study is present in literature.

[Enophthalmos of the enucleated eye].

Revue de stomatologie et de chirurgie maxillo-faciale, 1992
Even when it is corrected by an ocular prosthesis, enucleation often causes enophthalmos. After studying the integrality of the walls of the orbits with CT, the presence and position of the intraorbital implant must be controlled and the enophthalmos treated by compensating for the residual volume loss of the orbital content (bone or biomaterials) and,
