Remnant cholesterol is correlated with retinal vascular morphology and diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease
Background The association between remnant cholesterol (RC) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. Morphological changes in retinal vessels have been reported to predict vascular complications of diabetes ...

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Spheniodal mucocele causing bilateral optic neuropathy and ophthalmoplegia

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
Sphenoid sinus mucocele comprises only 2% of all paranasal sinus mucoceles. In literature, there is a case report on sphenoidal mucocele causing bilateral optic neuropathy, with unilateral partial recovery and cranial nerve palsy, but we did not come ...

Indian Soldiers Need Eye Protection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2017
Combat-related eye injuries entail enormous financial, social and psychological cost. Military Combat Eye Protection (MCEP) decreases both the incidence and severity of eye injuries. Experts have recognised the need for MCEP for Indian soldiers.

Chemical injuries of the eye [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2019
Chemical injuries involving the eye account for 11.5%–22.1% of ocular trauma. They occur primarily in industrial and agricultural settings.[1][1],[2][2] Irrigation with isotonic solutions (e.g., normal saline and lactated Ringer solution) or clean water should be started immediately ...

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Single-cell analysis highlights the role of CD4+ IFN-I-related T cells in Behcet’s uveitis during Interferonα-2a therapy

open access: yesBiology Direct
Background Behcet’s disease (BD) involves multiple immune cells, but the mechanism by which interferon α-2a (IFNα-2a) exerts therapeutic effects on BD through immune cell modulation remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role of CD4 + IFN-I-
