Optimization of the diffraction efficiency in photorefractive crystals [PDF]
The aim of this work is to study and to optimize the diffraction efficiency in sillenite BTO crystals. A theoretical analysis, where the effects of coupling beams are significant,is carried on. In addition, non-mobile transmission gratings are considered.

The Electronic Structure of NiO by means of Electron Spectroscopies and theoretical calculations [PDF]
We report experimental and theoretical evidence of surface effects in the Ni 2p x-ray photoemission spectra XPS of NiO. The Ni 2p3/2 surface-enhanced XPS of a NiO sample show a relative enhancement of the intensity of the known satellite at 1.5 eV higher

A simple model for submaximal exchange through the Strait of Gibraltar
This work presents a simple two-layer model for the water exchange through the Strait of Gibraltar. The model is inspired by the work of Bormans and Garrett (1989) and focus on the case of submaximal exchange with an unique hydraulic control at the ...

Artifact-free holographic light shaping through moving acousto-optic holograms
Holographic light modulation is the most efficient method to shape laser light into well-defined patterns and is therefore the means of choice for many intensity demanding applications.

A beyond mean field study of Bose gases in a double-well potential with a Feshbach resonance [PDF]
The Bose-Hubbard model coupled to a Feshbach resonance is studied. Quantum phase transitions are analyzed within a beyond mean field framework in order to get finite size corrections to the simple mean field approach.

Coupling Patterns of External Arguments in the Multiple-Spiral Medallions of the Mandelbrot Set
The multiple-spiral medallions are beautiful decorations situated in the proximity of the small copies of the Mandelbrot set. They are composed by an infinity of babies Mandelbrot sets that have external arguments with known structure.

Adaptation of an empirical model for erythemal ultraviolet irradiance [PDF]
In this work we adapt an empirical model to estimate ultraviolet erythemal irradiance (UVER) using experimental measurements carried out at seven stations in Spain during four years (2000–2003).

Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...
