Estimating F-Formations for Mobile Robotic Telepresence

Proceedings of the Companion of the 2017 ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction, 2017
In this paper, we present a method for the automatic detection of F-formations for mobile robot telepresence (MRP). The method consists of two phases a) estimating face orientation in video frames and b) estimating the F-formation based on detected faces.

Effect of Gaseous Inhibitors on PCDD/F Formation

Environmental Science & Technology, 1998
Emissions of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) from municipal waste incineration are currently a subject of considerable public concern because of their extreme toxicity. PCDD/F formation in incineration processes is being studied widely, but studies on inhibition are quite sparse, especially in a pilot-plant scale. In

Role of phenoxy radicals in PCDD/F formation

International Journal of Chemical Kinetics, 2002
AbstractIn this work, the role of phenoxy radicals in polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) formation was investigated by studying the slow oxidation of 2‐chlorophenol (2‐CP) and 2‐chloroanisole (2‐CA) at a gas‐phase concentration of 4 ppm (∼2.1 × 104 μg/m3) over a temperature range of 400–800°C.

Comparing F-Formations Between Humans and On-Screen Agents

Extended Abstracts of the 2020 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2020
With an increasing number of artificial agents operating in the real-world, understanding the formation of conversational groups, or F-formations, around them can provide critical information for interactions. In this paper, we report on an experiment involving conversational groups of up to seven people.

An Agent-Based Analyses of F-formations

2013
The spatial-orientational organization of face-to-face conversational encounters can be described in terms of the sociological notion of F-formations. Ethnomethodological studies of human interaction indicate several geometrical constraints that influence the positional orientations assumed by participants of F-formations.

PCDD/F formation during thermal desorption of chlorobenzene contaminated soil

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2017
Unintentional formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) is observed and investigated during the thermal desorption in an airflow of a sandy soil, doped artificially with either 1,2-dichlorobenzene (1,2-DiCBz) or hexachlorobenzene (HCBz) using a lab-scale experimental set-up.

CuCl2-catalyzed PCDD/F formation and congener patterns from phenols

Chemosphere, 2005
Homologue and isomer patterns of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) and polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDF) in CuCl2-catalyzed formation were studied in an isothermal flow reactor using a distribution of 20 phenols as measured in municipal waste incinerator (MWI) exhaust gases. A mixture of 20 phenols was synthesized and used as reactants for this

Temporal encoded F-formation system for social interaction detection

Proceedings of the 21st ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2013
In the context of a social gathering, such as a cocktail party, the memorable moments are generally captured by professional photographers or by the participants. The latter case is often undesirable because many participants would rather enjoy the event instead of being occupied by the photo-taking task.

Temperature dependence of PCDD/F-formation in boiler ash

Chemosphere, 1994
Abstract In a municipal waste incinerator boiler ash has been sampled from the horizontal superheater pass. Samples were taken at six different sites at flue gas temperatures ranging from 630 °C to 220 °C. Moreover, three samples were taken when the mechanical knocking system was working.

[Genetic control of plasmid F' formation. II. Role of recipient recA- in the process of plasmid F' formation].

Genetika, 1981
We have chosen the process of F'-plasmid formation as a model for a study of the illegitimate, recA-independent recombination. Our genetic data showed that F'-formation was under genetic control of the Hfr donor cells. To determine the role of recipient cells in the process of F-prime formation we compared the pattern of transconjugant formation in the
