Gravitational waves and neutrino emission from the merger of binary neutron stars
Numerical simulations for the merger of binary neutron stars are performed in full general relativity incorporating a finite-temperature (Shen's) equation of state (EOS) and neutrino cooling for the first time.

Very-high-energy observations of the binaries V 404 Cyg and 4U 0115+634 during giant X-ray outbursts
Transient X-ray binaries produce major outbursts in which the X-ray flux can increase over the quiescent level by factors as large as $10^7$. The low-mass X-ray binary V 404 Cyg and the high-mass system 4U 0115+634 underwent such major outbursts in June ...

Evolution of the pore size distribution in sheared binary glasses [PDF]
Molecular dynamics simulations are carried out to investigate mechanical properties and porous structure of binary glasses subjected to steady shear. The model vitreous systems were prepared via thermal quench at constant volume to a temperature well ...

Self-Duality in Nonlinear Electromagnetism [PDF]
We discuss duality invariant interactions between electromagnetic fields and matter. The case of scalar fields is treated in some detail.Comment: 10 pages, full postscript also available from http://theor1.lbl.gov/www/theorygroup/papers/40770 ...

Antioxidants, such as stilbenes, anthocyanidins, coumarins, tannins and flavonoids, are often based on oxygen-containing redox systems and tend to feature several hydroxyl groups in their chemical structures.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Ultra-wide angle lens design with relative illumination analysis [PDF]
An ultra-wide angle lens design with relative illumination analysis is presented. The half field angle of 80°, the relative illumination of the image plane will be reduced.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Algorithms for Computing the Linearity and Degree of Vectorial Boolean Functions [PDF]
In this article, we study two representations of a Boolean function which are very important in the context of cryptography. We describe Möbius and Walsh Transforms for Boolean functions in details and present effective algorithms for their ...
