First tristatic studies of meso-scale ion-neutral dynamics and energetics in the high-latitude upper atmosphere using collocated fpis and EISCAT radar [PDF]
A unique experiment was undertaken during the nights of 27 and 28 February 2003. Tristatic Fabry-Perot Interferometer (FPI) measurements of the upper thermosphere were co-located with tristatic EISCAT radar measurements of the ionosphere.

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

Fabry or not Fabry: From genetics to diagnosis
Fabry disease is a lysosomal storage disorder with an X-linked pattern of inheritance. Fabry disease is caused by impaired degradation and accumulation of the glycosphingolipid globotriaosylceramide, due to a deficiency of the enzyme α-Galactosidase A.

Stimulated Forward Brillouin Scattering in Subwavelength Grating Silicon Membranes
This work proposes a novel strategy to achieve large Brillouin scattering with independent control of the optical and mechanical modes using subwavelength silicon membranes. We experimentally demonstrate remarkably high Brillouin gain, resulting in an on/off Stokes gain of 3 dB and anti‐Stokes loss of 4 dB in a 6 mm‐long waveguide with 35 mW of on‐chip

Resonant States Reveal Strong Light–Matter Coupling in Nanophotonic Cavities
Photonic resonant states reveal characteristics of coupled light–matter systems that would otherwise be hidden by damping. Their trajectories (when tuning the optical resonance) undergo a qualitative change at the onset of strong coupling: They start swapping positions.

This work elucidates the previously unknown thermal dynamics during sub‐micrometer photothermal laser printing of zinc oxide using a non‐invasive transmission‐based in situ measurement. The elevated temperatures are shown to be highly localized around the laser focal spot, reaching average temperature increases of about 113 K per mW of laser power ...

Revealing the Resonant Physics of Open Photonic Time Crystals
ABSTRACT Photonic time crystals (PTCs) are media whose permittivity is modulated periodically in time, enabling momentum bandgaps and parametric amplification of light. Their realization at the nanoscale can revolutionize the study of light‐matter interactions.
