ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Detecting Faces With Face Masks

2021 44th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP), 2021
This paper deals with the evaluation of several methods for face detection when the face is covered by a mask. The methods evaluated are Haar cascade and Histogram of Oriented Gradients as feature-based approaches, Multitask Cascade Convolutional Neural Network, Max Margin Object Detection and TinyFace as convolutional neural network based approaches ...

Face Detection: A Survey

Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 2001
Summary: We present a comprehensive and critical survey of face detection algorithms. Face detection is a necessary first-step in face recognition systems, with the purpose of localizing and extracting the face region from the background. It also has several applications in areas such as content-based image retrieval, video coding, video conferencing ...

Computationally efficient face detection

Proceedings Eighth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision. ICCV 2001, 2002
This paper describes an algorithm for finding faces within an image. The basis of the algorithm is to run an observation window at all possible positions, scales and orientation within the image. A non-linear support vector machine is used to determine whether or not a face is contained within the observation window.

Semi-Supervised Face Detection

2005 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR'05) - Workshops, 2006
This paper presents a discussion on semi-supervised learning of probabilistic mixture model classifiers for face detection. We present a theoretical analysis of semi-supervised learning and show that there is an overlooked fundamental difference between the purely supervised and the semisupervised learning paradigms.

Detecting Faces, Saving Lives

IEEE Pulse, 2020
Your phone scans your face to unlock its screen. A social media app offers suggestions of friends to tag in photos. Airline check-in systems verify who you are as you stare into a camera. These are just a few examples of how facial recognition technology (FRT) is now ubiquitous in everyday lives.

Unconstrained Face Alignment Without Face Detection

2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops (CVPRW), 2017
This paper introduces our submission to the 2nd Facial Landmark Localisation Competition. We present a deep architecture to directly detect facial landmarks without using face detection as an initialization. The architecture consists of two stages, a Basic Landmark Prediction Stage and a Whole Landmark Regression Stage.

Heterogeneous Face Detection

Proceedings of the International Conference on Internet of things and Cloud Computing, 2016
Face detection is the process of determining the location of human faces in an image. Like human visual system, a face detection system should also be capable of achieving the detection task irrespective of illumination, absence of texture, orientation and camera distance.

Face detection and geometric face normalization

TENCON 2009 - 2009 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2009
Face detection is a prerequisite step for face recognition and face analysis related applications. Aim of the face detection system is to identify and locate all faces regardless of their positions, scale, orientation, lighting conditions, expressions, etc.

Face detection and eyeglasses detection for thermal face recognition

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
Thermal face recognition becomes an active research direction in human identification because it does not rely on illumination condition. Face detection and eyeglasses detection are necessary steps prior to face recognition using thermal images. Infrared light cannot go through glasses and thus glasses will appear as dark areas in a thermal image ...
