Contact Analysis of Helical Face Gears
Volume 6: 8th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, 2000Abstract This paper presents an analytical method developed to design and study the tooth geometry and contact characteristics of helical face gears. The tooth geometry is first defined while simulating the meshing of the face gear with the shaper used to cut it.

Analysis and Optimization of the Loaded Meshing of a Face Gear
Volume 4: 9th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, Parts A and B, 2003This work deals with loaded face gear meshing. In the first part, the software developed is described briefly. This tool can simulate the loaded behavior of face gear meshing and provide results such as the instantaneous pressure distribution along the entire face width of the teeth in contact and loaded transmission error.

Technology of Gear Shaping of Face Gear and Experimental Studies
2010 International Conference on Digital Manufacturing & Automation, 2010Face gear is the major parts of helicopter transmissions for split torque equipment. The process generation of face gear is critical factors to prevent the face gear drive to be applied. A novice method is proposed for face gear generated by use of a general shaper. Face gear design and geometry were investigated that include tooth generation, limiting

The undercutting and pointing of face‐gears
Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, 1998Abstract Undercutting and pointing are serious problems in the performance of face‐gears. Based on the theory of gearing, the tooth geometry of the face‐gear along with the sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and regularity of the generated face‐gear tooth surfaces were investigated.

In this chapter, the ever-increasing importance of face gear drives is first underlined, and short notes on their cutting processes are provided. The generation processes and geometrical elements of a face gear pair are then defined, and the basic topics of face gear manufacturing and bearing contact are given.

Design parameters for face gears
Journal of Mechanisms, 1971Abstract A general formulation to calculate critical dimensions such as the maximum practical outside diameter and the maximum face width of face gears in their general contact condition is presented. For the case of a face gear in mesh with an involute spur pinion on an intersecting orthogonal shaft, the necessary equations to calculate these ...

Kinematic Study of the Face Gear
16th Design Automation Conference: Volume 2 — Optimal Design and Mechanical Systems Analysis, 1990Abstract This paper presents the kinematic study of the face gear drive system. The study includes three different configurations which are: (1) the on-center orthogonal face gear drive, (2) the on-center non-orthogonal face gear drive, and (3) the offset orthogonal face gear drive.
