Evaluation of Carburized and Ground Face Gears [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Helicopter Society, 2000
Experimental durability tests were performed on carburized and ground AIS19310 steel face gears. The tests were in support of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Technology Reinvestment Program (TRP) to enhance face-gear technology. The tests were conducted in the NASA Glenn spiral-bevel-gear/face-gear test facility.

Three-dimensional photoelastic study of the load-carrying capacity/face width ratio of Wildhaber-Novikov gears for automotive applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Wildhaber-Novikov gears are becoming more and more popular for heavy load applications. They have been tried as speed-reducing gears, in spite of heavy noise generation, in aircraft jet engines, marine engines and agricultural machinery.

MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

In Situ 3D Bioprinting: Impact of Cross‐Linking on the Adhesive Properties of Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ 3D bioprinting enables the direct deposition of cell‐laden, adhesive biomaterials for on‐site tissue regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of how cross‐linking influences the bioadhesive properties of hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting, highlighting cross‐linking triggers, bioadhesion mechanisms, polymer interpenetration ...

Design, generation and tooth width analysis of helical curve-face gear

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2015
A new type of gear pair consisting of a helical non-circular gear and a curve-face gear is designed, which can transmit the time-varying motion of intersected axes of rotation.

Melt Electrowriting High Resolution Poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) Scaffolds for Soft Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work pioneers melt electrowriting (MEW) of polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA) to fabricate ultra‐compliant, high‐resolution scaffolds. By integrating microscale precision with soft tissue‐like biomechanics, PEVA overcomes stiffness‐driven limitations of conventional MEW polymers, establishing a mechanically biomimetic platform for soft tissue ...

Wabble gear drive mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
The wabble gear principle was applied in the design of a driving mechanism for controlling spacecraft solar panels. The moving elements, other than the output gear, are contained within a hermetically sealed package to prevent escape of lubricants and ...
