Facial attribute-controlled sketch-to-image translation with generative adversarial networks

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2020
Due to the rapid development of the generative adversarial networks (GANs) and convolution neural networks (CNN), increasing attention is being paid to face synthesis.

Efficient Generation of Multiple Sketch Styles Using a Single Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In the real world, different artists draw sketches of the same person with different artistic styles both in texture and shape. Our goal is to synthesize realistic face sketches of different styles while retaining the input face identity, only using a ...

Feature Encoder Guided Generative Adversarial Network for Face Photo-Sketch Synthesis

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Face photo-sketch synthesis often suffers from many problems, such as low clarity, facial distortion, contents loss, texture missing and color inconsistency in the synthesized images.

Face Photo-Sketch Synthesis via Knowledge Transfer [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2019
Despite deep neural networks have demonstrated strong power in face photo-sketch synthesis task, their performance, however, are still limited by the lack of training data (photo-sketch pairs). Knowledge Transfer (KT), which aims at training a smaller and fast student network with the information learned from a larger and accurate teacher network, has ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Fast Preprocessing for Robust Face Sketch Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2017
Exemplar-based face sketch synthesis methods usually meet the challenging problem that input photos are captured in different lighting conditions from training photos. The critical step causing the failure is the search of similar patch candidates for an input photo patch.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Faces from sketches: a subspace synthesis approach [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2006
In real life scenario, we may be interested in face recognition for identification purpose when we only got sketch of the face images, for example, when police tries to identify criminals based on sketches of suspect, which is drawn by artists according to description of witnesses, what they have in hand is a sketch of suspects, and many real face ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.
