Asymmetry index for the photogrammetric assessment of facial asymmetry
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2022Facial asymmetry is common and can be clinically related to dental malocclusion, facial bone development, muscular imbalance, and soft tissues thickness, which should be assessed during diagnosis to choose proper treatment options. This study aimed to quantify the amount of symmetry/asymmetry in previously defined symmetrical and asymmetrical subjects,

Facial asymmetry versus facial makeup
2018 IEEE 8th Annual Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference (CCWC), 2018Variations in facial appearance resulting from the application of ordinary makeup products, such as eyeliner and lipstick, are challenging for automated facial recognition. This work studies the potential of using the measurement of the inherent asymmetry between the two halves of a person's face presented in [18] as a helpful feature to overcome this ...

The role of structural facial asymmetry in asymmetry of peak facial expressions
Laterality, 2006Asymmetric facial expression is generally attributed to asymmetry in movement, but structural asymmetry in the face may also affect asymmetry of expression. Asymmetry in posed expressions was measured using image-based approaches in digitised sequences of facial expression in 55 individuals, N=16 men, N=39 women.

Facial Asymmetry in Partial Epilepsies
Epilepsia, 1992Summary: Fifty‐six consecutive epileptic patients with partial seizures (30 temporal, 26 extratemporal) and facial asymmetry were studied. Facial asymmetry was compared with EEG, radiologic, and other clinical findings. Thirty patients had a lesional epilepsy whereas 26 were considered cryptogenic.

Facial Asymmetries and Mandibular Displacements
British Journal of Orthodontics, 1974The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part Facial Asymmetries are classified with special reference to the mandible, and mandibular displacements. In the second part the diagnosis of mandibular displacement associated with facial asymmetry is discussed, including the clinical and radiographic interpretation and the treatment problems ...

Implications of Facial Asymmetry in Rhinoplasty
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2017Summary: Many rhinoplasty patients present with a chief complaint of nasal deviation and are unaware of any inherent facial asymmetries; however, recognizing and discussing the interrelation between the deviated nose and facial asymmetry is an important consideration in surgical planning.

Primate Experiments on Facial Asymmetry
Journal of Dental Research, 1970A primate model was developed for testing the response of a normal structure to an abnormal environment. Facial asymmetry after experimental maxillary displacement did not extend to the zygoma. Significant changes occurred in the development of the maxilla, the nasal cavity, and the position and occlusion of the dentition.

Hypertrichosis “cubiti” with facial asymmetry
American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1994AbstractHypertrichosis of the elbow region may be the only abnormality in hypertrichosis cubiti (hairy elbow syndrome). Only 6 cases have been reported; 2 Amish sibs also had additional short stature and, in the most recent case report, a patient had asymmetry of the face, generalized hypotonia, ptosis, epicanthic folds, highly arched palate, and ...

On Facial Asymmetry and Self-Perception
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2014Self-perception has been an enduring human concern since ancient times and remains a significant component of the preoperative and postoperative consultation. Despite modern technological attempts to reproduce the first-hand experience, there is no perfect substitute for human, stereoscopic, three-dimensional vision in evaluating appearance.

Facial asymmetry and condylar hyperplasia
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1975Abstract A review is made of condylar hyperplasia and facial asymmetry. Nine cases are reported and a proposed subdivision into four groups based upon the clinical findings is suggested. The treatment of the different groups is discussed.
