Facial Expression Synthesis and Animation

open access: yes, 2011
Living in a computer era, the synergy between man and machine is a must, as the computers are integrated into our everyday life. The computers are surrounding us but their interfaces are far from being friendly. One possible approach to create a friendlier human-computer interface is to build an emotion-sensitive machine that should be able to ...

Spontaneous Facial Expression Analysis and Synthesis for Interactive Facial Animation

open access: yes, 2011
This chapter describes a probabilistic framework for faithful reproduction of spontaneous facial expressions on a synthetic face model in a real time interactive application. The framework consists of a coupled Bayesian network (BN) to unify the facial expression analysis and synthesis into one coherent structure.

Expressive Facial Animation Synthesis by Learning Speech Coarticulation and Expression Spaces

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2006
Synthesizing expressive facial animation is a very challenging topic within the graphics community. In this paper, we present an expressive facial animation synthesis system enabled by automated learning from facial motion capture data. Accurate 3D motions of the markers on the face of a human subject are captured while he/she recites a predesigned ...

Facial Expression Synthesis with Synchronous Editing of Face Organs

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2021
Facial expression synthesis (FES) is to generate a new face with a desired expression domain. However, in FES field, many current methods fail to enable relevant facial components to transform simultaneously, which makes the target expression look unnatural.

Highly automated method for facial expression synthesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The synthesis of realistic facial expressions has been an unexplored area for computer graphics scientists. Over the last three decades, several different construction methods have been formulated in order to obtain natural graphic results. Despite these advancements, though, current techniques still require costly resources, heavy user intervention ...

FACIAL EXPRESSION SYNTHESIS BASED ON FACIAL COMPONENT MODEL

International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 2009
Statistical model based facial expression synthesis methods are robust and can be easily used in real environment. But facial expressions of humans are varied. How to represent and synthesize expressions that are is not included in the training set is an unresolved problem in statistical model based researches.

MPEG-4 facial expression synthesis

Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, 2007
The current work will describe an approach to synthesize expressions, including intermediate ones, via the tools provided in the MPEG-4 standard based on real measurements and on universally accepted assumptions of their meaning, taking into account results of Whissel's study.

Facial Expression Synthesis on Robots

Proceedings of the Tenth Annual ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction Extended Abstracts, 2015
We present a generalized technique for easily synthesizing facial expressions on robotic faces. In contrast to other work, our approach works in near real time with a high level of accuracy, does not require any manual labeling, is a fully open-source ROS module, and can enable the research community to perform objective and systematic comparisons ...

Analysis-based facial expression synthesis

Proceedings of 1st International Conference on Image Processing, 2002
We describe an approach to synthesizing human expressions based on 3D face model and the facial motion parameters obtained by tracking the model vertices in real expression sequences. The synthetic sequences of different expressions can be generated by deforming the face model using these motion parameters.
