3-D facial expression representation using B-spline statistical shape model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Effective representation and recognition of human faces are essential in a number of applications including human-computer interaction (HCI), bio-metrics or video conferencing. This paper presents initial results obtained for a novel method of 3-D facial

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...

Automatic facial expression tracking for 4D range scans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a fully automatic approach of spatio-temporal facial expression tracking for 4D range scans without any manual interventions (such as specifying landmarks).

Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Facial expression recognition through muscle synergies and estimation of facial keypoint displacements through a skin-musculoskeletal model using facial sEMG signals

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
The development of facial expression recognition (FER) and facial expression generation (FEG) systems is essential to enhance human-robot interactions (HRI). The facial action coding system is widely used in FER and FEG tasks, as it offers a framework to

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...

The role of cognitive load in automatic integration of emotional information from face and body

open access: yesScientific Reports
We perceive emotions daily through facial expressions, often accompanied by a body posture that provide additional emotional context. Congruent facial and bodily expressions (conveying the same emotion) enhance emotional recognition compared to ...
