Facial Nerve Neuroma

open access: yesEar, Nose & Throat Journal, 1972
AbstractFacial nerve neuromas are uncommon, slow growing, and readily treatable when detected. Fourteen patients with facial nerve neuromas are reported here. These tumors can occur within any part of the intratemporal course of the facial nerve. Occurrence and progression of the symptoms depend on the site of origin of the tumor and are those of ...

Newly identified axon types of the facial nerve unveil supplemental neural pathways in the innervation of the face

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2023
Introduction: Neuromuscular control of the facial expressions is provided exclusively via the facial nerve. Facial muscles are amongst the most finely tuned effectors in the human motor system, which coordinate facial expressions.

Efficacy of electrical stimulation of the zygomaticus muscle in complete facial paralysis: evidence from facial grading and automated image analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Translational Myology
Surface Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a well-studied intervention for multiple muscular disorders. However, it is still controversially discussed as a complementary therapy for complete facial paralysis.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Automatic facial analysis for objective assessment of facial paralysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Facial Paralysis is a condition causing decreased movement on one side of the face. A quantitative, objective and reliable assessment system would be an invaluable tool for clinicians treating patients with this condition. This paper presents an approach

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.
