Abstract Background Trigeminal‐mediated headshaking (TMHS) in horses shares clinical features with human trigeminal neuralgia (HTN). Increased levels of the neuropeptide calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) have been found in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of HTN patients. Inhibition of CGRP in humans has shown promise for pain relief.

Peripheral neurectomy in treatment of trigeminal neuralgia: A case report
Neuropathic pain is nonadaptive and does not contribute to healing, such as would be the case with pain attributable to tissue inflammation, where pain results in adaptive behaviors, such as use limitation, guarding, rest, and avoidance, which contribute

Evaluating the impact of trigeminal neuralgia [PDF]
Patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (TN) were categorised into 3 subtypes (n 5 225). Group 1 (n 5 155, 68.9%) had TN without concomitant pain, group 2 (n532, 14.2%) had TN with intermittent concomitant pain, and group 3 (n539, 16.9%) had TN ...

Preliminary results of 45 patients with trigeminal neuralgia treated with radiosurgery compared to hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy, using a dedicated linear accelerator. [PDF]
Radiosurgery (RS) and hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (HSRT) were performed in 23 and 22 patients respectively for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. RS and HSRT were performed with a dedicated linear accelerator (LINAC): an invasive frame
