STOCHASTIC FRACTURED ROCK FACIES FOR GROUNDWATER FLOW MODELING

open access: yesDyna, 2013
Este artículo presenta los resultados de una simulación de flujo de agua subterránea en rocas fracturadas. Se emplea un enfoque estocástico (modelo estocástico equivalente en medio poroso fracturado) para construir el modelo conceptual y para usar este ...

Identifying the pre‐Odra river system with hydroacoustic and seismic reflection imagery offshore Rügen Island, southern Baltic Sea

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Understanding the course and dynamics of ancient river systems, such as the pre‐Odra, provides valuable insights into the post‐glacial evolution of landscapes and riverine processes. The northwest‐trending pre‐Odra was an important drainage system of the European mainland into the Baltic Basin during and after the Scandinavian Ice Sheet retreat ...

Thorncliffe Formation: A proglacial to subglacial lacustrine basin sequence, Greater Toronto Region, Canada

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Map of Lower sediment (LS) thickness is a surrogate for the distribution of Thorncliffe Formation (TF) and ~75% of TF thickness from the slope of Niagara Escarpment east to Brighton. Inset images show the LS sequence at the Don Valleys brickyards (DVBY) and undeformed TF sand and gravel (~15 m) below Newmarket Till (NT) at sites L and Co.

The orbital record in stratigraphy [PDF]

open access: yes
Orbital signals are being discovered in pre-Pleistocene sediments. Due to their hierarchical nature these cycle patterns are complex, and the imprecision of geochronology generally makes the assignment of stratigraphic cycles to specific orbital cycles ...

Chironomid‐based summer temperature reconstruction of the Eemian–Weichselian transition at Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Understanding the temperature variability of past interglacial cycles is essential to predict future climates. We present a new summer temperature reconstruction, based on the subfossil chironomid record from a small palaeolake adjacent to the Middle Palaeolithic site of Lichtenberg, northern Germany. The record spans from the Saalian late glacial over

Geochemical evolution of groundwater in an evaporite karst system: Brujuelo area (Jaén, Spain) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chemical evolution of groundwater along two main flowpaths was studied in Brujuelo area, an evaporite plateau characterized by the presence of wetlands and drained by hyper-saline springs.

Drilling the Marathousa palaeo‐lake in Greece (Peloponnese): inferring the environmental context of a Middle Pleistocene archaeological site

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Megalopolis Basin is located in the central Peloponnese (Greece), a region that is situated along one of the primary Pleistocene biogeographical corridors for intracontinental hominin migration. The basin comprises several hundred metres of Plio‐Pleistocene sediments alternating between clastics and lignites.

Hydrous Carbonatitic Liquids Drive CO2 Recycling From Subducted Marls and Limestones

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 209-221., 2020

This book is Open Access. A digital copy can be downloaded for free from Wiley Online Library.

Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions

Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

Expanding the Phenotypic Spectrum Associated With Loss‐of‐Function SMARCA4 Variants to Eye Developmental Anomalies

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
This study expands the clinical spectrum of SMARCA4 by describing a novel phenotype in three unrelated individuals with truncating variants. Distinct from Coffin–Siris syndrome and rhabdoid tumor predisposition, this new association is characterized by ocular malformations, specifically microphthalmia and coloboma.

Sedimentary Architecture Prediction Using Facies Interpretation and Forward Seismic Modeling: Application to a Mediterranean Land–Sea Pliocene Infill (Roussillon Basin, France)

open access: yesGeosciences
This study predicts sedimentary architectures and facies distribution within the Pliocene prograding prism of the Roussillon Basin (Gulf of Lion, France), developed along an onshore–offshore continuum.
