Facies Modelling in Fault Zones
ECMOR X - 10th European Conference on the Mathematics of Oil Recovery, 2006Traditionally fault impact on fluid flow is included by assigning transmissibility multipliers to flow simulation grid cell faces co-located with the fault plane (Manzocchi et al. 1999). A new method, called Fault Facies modelling (Tveranger et al. 2004, 2005), captures fault impact by considering faults as deformed rock volumes rather than simple ...

Clastic facies models and facies analysis
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1985Summary The term facies is used either descriptively, for a certain volume of sediment, or interpretatively for the inferred depositional environment of that sediment. Facies models are intellectual aids to the understanding of sedimentary environments and the origin of ancient sedimentary rocks.

Upscaling facies models to preserve connectivity of designated facies
Hydrogeology Journal, 2010An upscaling algorithm has been developed that generates an irregular coarse grid that preserves flow connectivity by applying a rule-based upscaling algorithm to a fine-scale facies distribution. The algorithm is demonstrated using stochastically generated paleo-fluvial facies distributions.

Chapter 13 Contourite Facies and the Facies Model
2008Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the historical context and describes the different contourite facies recognized. The contourite facies models are outlined and the interpretation of contourite sequences is discussed. Some hybrid contourite facies are considered and criteria for the distinction between contourites and associated facies in deep ...

Seismic characterization of fault facies models
Interpretation, 2017Abstract Faults play a key role in reservoirs by enhancing or restricting fluid flow. A fault zone can be divided into a fault core that accommodates most of the displacement and a surrounding damage zone. Interpretation of seismic data is a key method for studying subsurface features, but the internal structure and properties of ...

Facies Diagnosis and Facies Models
1982Microfacies types document differences in the kind of and significance of sedimentological (affecting sediment) and biological (affecting organisms) environmental factors. Although during the genesis of facies units there is an interplay of several factors, some environmental factors — especially in marine areas — seem to be of major importance.

Hemipelagites: processes, facies and model
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1998Abstract Detailed sedimentological studies have been carried out on Pleistocene to Recent sediments from the Makran margin and on Miocene to Recent sediments from the Oman margin of the NW Indian Ocean. In both area, hemipelagites make up c. 50% of the succession, being closely interbedded with turbidites (

Shallow-marine carbonate facies and facies models
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1985Summary Shallow-marine carbonate sediments occur in three settings: platforms, shelves and ramps. The facies patterns and sequences in these settings are distinctive. However, one type of setting can develop into another through sedimentational or tectonic processes and, in the geologic record, intermediate cases are common.

A generalization of the fractal/facies model
Hydrogeology Journal, 2007In order to generalize the fractal/facies concept, a new stochastic fractal model for ln(K) increment probability density functions (PDFs) is presented that produces non-Gaussian behavior at smaller lags and converges to Gaussian at larger lags. The model is based on the classical Laplace PDF.
