Spatially Downscaling of Future Food Demand for Policy Planning

open access: yesWorld Food Policy, Volume 12, Issue 1, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the subnational dynamics of food demand, while accounting for the evolution of the agrifood system at the global level, remains a challenge for designing food policy to ensure food security. To link global agrifood systems with subnational food policy planning, we downscale per capita food demand for 62 food commodities at the ...

Probabilistic Agro‐Hydrology: A Stochastic Framework for Irrigation Risk Assessment and Water Management

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Irrigation plays a critical role in stabilizing agricultural productivity under increasing climatic variability. However, the intensification of droughts and extreme weather events is revealing the vulnerability of irrigation systems, particularly due to mismatches between peak water needs and natural water availability.

Acclimatisation duration, not just release type, drives post‐release settlement in a large‐scale carnivore reintroduction programme

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our study highlights that when acclimatisation periods are too short, the substantial economic and logistical investment in soft‐release protocols may fail to deliver the expected conservation gains. Therefore, defining evidence‐based acclimatisation periods that are long enough to promote settlement, yet compatible with logistical constraints, may ...

Sugar provisioning increases parasitoid numbers in agroecosystems but may not reduce pest densities: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our findings demonstrate that providing sugar sources reliably supports parasitoid populations and parasitism rate but does not systematically translate into improved pest suppression or yield gains. These results suggest that, for economic and practical reasons, sugar inputs at the edge of cultivated fields should be favoured.

European mistletoe shares a similar demographic strategy with non‐parasitic plants

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
European mistletoe (Viscum album) does not have a distinct demographic strategy from non‐parasitic plants, as quantified by time‐based life history traits. We found that mistletoe vital rates were driven by mistletoe size and position in the host tree.

Problematizing the Cooperative Firm: A Marxian View on Paradoxes, Dialectics, and Contradictions

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, Volume 63, Issue 3, Page 1124-1154, May 2026.
Abstract Scholars are increasingly turning their attention to cooperative firms, characterized by worker ownership and management, as a way for organizations to address the economic, societal and environmental problems posed by corporate capitalism. This renewed interest stems from the potential of cooperatives to foster an alternative economic system ...

Mapping the rights‐implementation gap in Forest Landscape Restoration: evidence from Mexico

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 4, May 2026.
Abstract Introduction The inclusion of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) is central to international agendas. Yet, the understanding of how national frameworks operationalize this principle through concrete mechanisms for IPLC participation and rights recognition remains limited.
