Voltage flicker mitigation by FACTS devices

2014 International Conference on Circuits, Power and Computing Technologies [ICCPCT-2014], 2014
This paper deals with the Voltage flicker in power systems. Voltage flicker is one of the disturbances in power systems. This voltage flicker occurs due to non linear loads. A three phase four wire inverter system is consider to compensate the voltage flicker.

Use of Max-Flow on FACTS devices

2007 39th North American Power Symposium, 2007
FACTS devices can be used to mitigate cascading failures in a power grid by controlling the power flow in individual lines. Placement and control are significant issues. We present a procedure for determining whether a scenario can be mitigated using the concept of maximum flow.

Power flow control with FACTS devices

2000 Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting (Cat. No.00CH37134), 2002
A new method of power flow calculation considering FACTS devices is developed in the paper from a view of general approach of nonlinear system. The power flow equations of a power system with FACTS devices are presented. This method can also be used when there are some other nonlinear devices in a system.

Allocation of FACTS devices in hydrothermal systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2000
This work presents a methodology to represent and analyze the influence of FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems) devices on the multiperiod economic dispatch problem. Two FACTS devices are represented: the series compensator and the phase shifter.

Global Voltage Sag Mitigation With FACTS-Based Devices

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2010
This paper presents an approach to optimally select and allocate flexible ac transmission (FACTS) devices in a distribution network in order to minimize the number of voltage sags at network buses. The method proposed is based on the optimization of a preselected objective function using simple and niching genetic algorithms (GA).

FACTS device modelling in the harmonic domain

2006
This thesis describes a novel harmonic domain approach for assessing the steady state performance of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices. Existing harmonic analysis techniques are reviewed and used as the basis for a novel iterative harmonic domain model for PWM FACTS devices.
