Isolation and Characterization of Facultative-Anaerobic Antimonate-Reducing Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Microbial antimonate (Sb(V)) reduction is a promising approach to remove Sb(V) from wastewater. However, current knowledge regarding microbial Sb(V) reduction is limited to strictly anaerobic conditions.

The Isolation of Anaerobic and Facultative Anaerobic Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and a Comparison of Related Enzymes in Their Sulfate Reduction Pathways

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) are an important group of microorganisms that cause microbial corrosion. In this study, culturable SRB were isolated and identified from the inner rust layer of three kinds of steel and from sediments, and a comparison of ...

Biohydrogen Producing Facultative Anaerobic Bacteria from Different Anaerobic Sludge

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2022
This study aims to isolate and characterize efficient biohydrogen generating facultative anaerobic bacteria from various samples, viz., biogas plant (BGP), municipal sewage (MS), and dairy industry treatment plant (DTP). The physicochemical properties of

Brucella spp. are facultative anaerobic bacteria under denitrifying conditions

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Bacteria of the genus Brucella are responsible for human and animal brucellosis worldwide and comprise the well-characterized, so-called classical species belonging to the core clade, with a host range limited to mammals, and the novel atypical strains ...

Production of bioethanol by facultative anaerobic bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Institute of Brewing, 2017
There is increased interest in using facultative aerobic bacteria to produce bioethanol from waste materials, including complex hemicellulosic biomass. In this laboratory study, ethanol was produced by different facultative aerobic bacteria ( Lactobacillus plantarum M24, Lactobacillus sakei LB49, Weissella viridescens LB37 and Pediococcus acidilactici ...

Hydrogen production by mixed culture of several facultative bacteria and anaerobic bacteria

open access: yesProgress in Natural Science: Materials International, 2011
AbstractThe characteristic of hydrogen production by facultative anaerobic bacteria, obligate anaerobic bacteria and their mixed culture was studied by the batch culture method. The results showed that, due to the synergistic effect between facultative bacteria and anaerobic bacteria, the ability of hydrogen production in the mixed culture was much ...

A mouse model to test the anti-inflammatory effect of facultative anaerobes on dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2023
Summary: The role of facultative anaerobic bacteria in colitis remains to be elucidated. We have adapted a mouse model to explore the effect of individual facultative anaerobic bacteria on colitis, focusing on adapting a cocktail of antibiotics and ...

Facultative Anaerobic Bacteria from the Sheep's Rumen [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1954
SUMMARY: A study has been made of some 300 facultative anaerobic strains, isolated by Heald, Krogh, Mann, Appleby, Masson & Oxford (1953) from the rumen of a hay-fed sheep. The 120 streptococcal isolates all belonged to Lancefield's serological group D. 82% had fermentation and other reactions similar to Streptococcus bovis; 6% resembled Str.
