European and Mediterranean Myzocallidini Aphid Species: DNA Barcoding and Remarks on Ecology with Taxonomic Modifications in An Integrated Framework

open access: yesInsects, 2022
The genus Myzocallis Passerini (Hemiptera, Aphididae, Calaphidinae, Myzocallidini) is a rather primitive group of aphids currently comprising 45 species and 3 subspecies, subdivided into ten subgenera, three of them having a West Palaearctic distribution.

A single evolutionary innovation drives the deep evolution of symbiotic N2-fixation in angiosperms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Symbiotic associations occur in every habitat on earth, but we know very little about their evolutionary histories. Current models of trait evolution cannot adequately reconstruct the deep history of symbiotic innovation, because they assume homogenous ...

Atmospheric Pollen Monitoring and Bayesian Network Analysis Identify Bet v 1 and Cross-Reactive Cry j 1 as Dominant Tree Allergens in Ukraine

open access: yesAtmosphere
Tree pollen allergies are influenced by regional atmospheric pollen concentrations and flora distribution. Climate change and urban landscaping have altered airborne pollen profiles in Ukraine, potentially affecting sensitization patterns.

Comparison of the nodule vs. root transcriptome of the actinorhizal plant Datisca glomerata: actinorhizal nodules contain a specific class of defensins. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Actinorhizal root nodule symbioses are very diverse, and the symbiosis of Datisca glomerata has previously been shown to have many unusual aspects.

Sanitation felling against the European spruce bark beetle: A matter of intensity and forest type Tagli fitosanitari contro il bostrico tipografo: una questione di intensità e tipologia forestale

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We assess the effect of sanitation felling performed in 2022 in North‐Eastern Italy on bark beetle damage that occurred in 2023 across eight spruce forest types, as evaluated using multispectral satellite imagery. Bark beetle damage was reduced only at very high or very low sanitation felling rates.

Ecological and evolutionary determinants of global Fagales biodiversity

open access: yes, 2022
Understanding the large-scale biodiversity distribution is one of the greatest challenges in macroecology and biogeography today. The observed patterns are the result of a combination of ecological factors (e.g., past and contemporary environment) on the one hand, and evolutionary processes (e.g., species interactions and evolution) on the other.
