Comparison of adaxial and abaxial spectral reflectance of Fagus orientalis Lipsky and Carpinus betulu using field spectroradiometer and spectral indices [PDF]
The spectral reflectance of tree crown can be different from spectral reflectance of its leaves because of diverse leaf and branch angles as well as internal space of tree crown.

Phylogeny of beech in western Eurasia as inferred by approximate Bayesian computation
The Fagus sylvatica L. species complex in Europe and Western Asia comprises two commonly recognized subspecies, F. sylvatica subsp. sylvatica [= F. sylvatica sensu stricto (s. str.)] and F. sylvatica subsp. orientalis (= F.

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Part 1: Variations of wood colour parameters [PDF]
Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed.

Intraspecific variation and geographic patterns of Fagus orientalis Lipsky chloroplast DNA [PDF]
AbstractCpDNA variation in Iranian beech, Fagus orientalis Lipsky (Fagaceae) was studied in 14 populations distributed throughout the species range in the Hyrcanain zone. Two cpDNA intergenic regions were analyzed: (i) one in the DT region between trnD (tRNA-Asp) and trnT (tRNA-Thr) genes, and (ii) one in the OA region between the orf184 and petA genes.

Lathe Check Characteristics of Fast Growing Sengon Veneers and Their Effect on LVL Glue-Bond and Bending Strength [PDF]
Fast growing sengon (Paraserianthes moluccana) is largely rotary-cut to produce veneer for core plywood production. In order to provide better information on veneer production and utilization, in this study the effects of wood juvenility and veneer ...

Population estimators or progeny tests: what is the best method to assess null allele frequencies at SSR loci? [PDF]
Nuclear SSRs are notorious for having relatively high frequencies of null alleles, i.e. alleles that fail to amplify and are thus recessive and undetected in heterozygotes.

Corrigendum to “Pollen-based paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic change at Lake Ohrid (south-eastern Europe) during the past 500 ka” published in Biogeosciences, 13, 1423–1437, 2016 [PDF]
In this corrigendum we report an updated pollen record from the Lake Ohrid DEEP site spanning the past 500 ka whereby we have reprocessed and re-analyzed 104 samples affected by chemical procedure problems that occurred in one palynological laboratory ...
