Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Modeling the Failure Behavior of CFRP Laminates Subjected to Combined Thermal and Mechanical Loadings

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes a theoretical approach to predict the failure behavior of laminated carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) under combined thermal and mechanical loadings. Two types of CFRP Laminates i.e. CCF300/BA9916 and T700/BA9916 are investigated

Reliability, Resilience, and Alerts: Preferences for Autonomous Vehicles in the United States

open access: yesFuture Transportation
Self-driving vehicle (SDV) safety and reliability are becoming critical design parameters as SDVs increase their market share. This paper examines public preferences for key SDV safety features (system reliability, sensor resilience, failure behavior ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Spatial variability effect of internal friction angle on the post-failure behavior of landslides using a random and non-Newtonian fluid based SPH method

open access: yesGeoscience Frontiers, 2020
This study proposed a random Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method for analyzing the post-failure behavior of landslides, which is based on the Karhunen–Loeve (K-L) expansion, the non-Newtonian fluid model, and the OpenMP parallel framework.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
