Uneven Stiffness Coal Seam: A New Structural Factor Prone to Coal Burst Based on Stiffness Theory
The development of stiffness theory is constrained by its contradiction with engineering experience. Several easily overlooked details of stiffness theory were clarified, and a qualitative evaluation formula for the risk of coal burst was provided.

Failure criterion for metallic glasses
Metallic glasses exhibit not only multiple failure modes but also differences in ultimate strength, plastic strain to fracture and asymmetric deviation of failure angles from 45 degrees between tension and compression.

A PROGRESSIVE QUADRATIC FAILURE CRITERION FOR A LAMINATE
The application of failure criteria to laminated composites is a critical step in the determination of the strength and safety of a point in a structure under combined loading conditions. Non-homogeneous stresses within a structure may induce a complicated failure scenario whereby one ply at a point can initiate failure and affect other plies at the ...

ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a chronic, inherited hemoglobinopathy that requires frequent hospitalization for disease‐related complications. Canadian data on inpatient care is limited. This study compared caregiver‐reported hospital experiences of children with SCD to those with cystic fibrosis (CF), a chronic, autosomal recessive ...

We extend Sih's strain energy density criterion (Si h, 1974) for crack kinks and material failure by weighting differently the volumetric and distortional parts in the extended strain energy density factor. The work is inspired by the factor that failure

A density-dependent failure criterion for concrete [PDF]
This work focuses on the large effect of small secondary stresses on the compressive strength of concrete. The strength and especially the ductility of structural concrete members depend on local triaxial stress conditions that inevitably develop in the ...

ABSTRACT Background Osteosarcoma (OS) and Ewing sarcoma (EWS) are the most common primary bone cancers in children, but acute thrombosis is poorly characterized in this population. Our study evaluated the rates of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and associated risk factors in pediatric patients with bone sarcomas treated over a 10‐year period encompassing

Spiral fracture in metallic glasses and its correlation with failure criterion
We report the observation of spiral fracture of the metallic glass Zr41Ti14Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 (at.%) subjected to both shear and normal stresses. The spiral angle (that between the spiral line and the loading axis) increases as we gradually change the ...

The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.
