Desalination and Water Treatment, 2014
AbstractHorizontal-tube falling film technology is widely used in multi-effect desalination plant. The film characteristics of falling water film outside the tubes in horizontal-tube falling film evaporator were simulated. The numerical result was compared with the experimental result and they were proven with good agreement.

Turbulence in falling liquid films
AIChE Journal, 1955AbstractOn the basis of fluid dynamic and heat transfer studies on falling‐film towers by various investigators, it has been commonly accepted by most workers that the liquid flow is essentially streamline in nature for liquid‐film Reynolds numbers under 1,800 to 2,000; conseuquently it would be expected that the rate of physical gas absorption in such

Falling films of pseudoplastic liquids
The Chemical Engineering Journal, 1974Abstract An experimental and analytical study has been conducted on thin film flow of pseudoplastic, non-Newtonian liquids down a smooth vertical plate. Mean film thickness, friction coefficient, wavelength and entrance length preceding the first noticeable waves have been examined experimentally.

A Compact Falling Film Absorber
Advanced Energy Systems, 2004The paper presents a new design of a falling film absorber that could considerably reduce the absorber size without penalizing on the vapor and coolant side pressure drops. The proposed design is based on the fundamental characteristics of an efficient absorber design: large liquid-vapor interfacial area and good wetting characteristics.

The performance of the falling film molecular still
Vacuum, 1959During the past 12 years, more than 30 sets of industrial molecular distillation equipments were constructed in Japan and they are now being operated successfully for the purpose of concentrating vitamin A from fish-liver oil, for instance. Introducing one of the largest equipments, the performance data are presented as well as some theoretical ...

Spatiotemporal instability of an electrified falling film
Physical Review E, 2016The linear spatiotemporal response to an infinitesimal disturbance is analyzed for an electrified falling film based on the Orr-Sommerfeld boundary value problem. Four spatial branches are identified, which lose their spatial symmetry in the presence of an electric field.

Wave Evolution on a Falling Film
Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics, 1994Since the pioneering experiment by the father-son team of the Kapitza family during their house arrest in the late forties (Kapitza & Kapitza 1949), wave evolution on a falling film has intrigued many researchers. One of its main attractions is its simplicity-it is an open-flow hydrodynamic instability that occurs at very low flow rates.

Flow of a falling film into a pool
AIChE Journal, 1978AbstractComplete interfacial profiles are generated for the gravity flow of a thin film into a stagnant pool. The profiles show standing waves and a rapid thinning of the film just above the static meniscus over the pool. Such effects are encountered, for example, at the bottom of wetted wall columns.

Hydrodynamics of Slopped Falling Films
2002The stability analysis of the viscous liquid film flows leads to mathematical models which are derived from complete boundary problem for Navier-Stokes equations and include dispersion and dissipation. The principal property of similar flows is there are mechanisms of instability and itself development which form progressive or steady wave structures ...
