Numerical investigation on characteristics of falling film in horizontal-tube falling film evaporator

AbstractHorizontal-tube falling film technology is widely used in multi-effect desalination plant. The film characteristics of falling water film outside the tubes in horizontal-tube falling film evaporator were simulated. The numerical result was compared with the experimental result and they were proven with good agreement.

A Compact Falling Film Absorber

Spatiotemporal instability of an electrified falling film

The linear spatiotemporal response to an infinitesimal disturbance is analyzed for an electrified falling film based on the Orr-Sommerfeld boundary value problem. Four spatial branches are identified, which lose their spatial symmetry in the presence of an electric field.

The profiles show standing waves and a rapid thinning of the film just above the static meniscus over the pool. Such effects are encountered, for example, at the bottom of wetted wall columns.
