Engineering Fano resonances in discrete arrays [PDF]
We study transmission properties of discrete arrays composed of a linear waveguide coupled to a system of side defect states. This simple system can be used to model discrete networks of coupled defect modes in photonic crystals, complex waveguide arrays in two-dimensional nonlinear lattices, and ring-resonator structures.

This study presents toroidal‐dipole (TD)‐driven polarisation‐selective quasi‐bound states in the continuum (quasi‐BICs) in all‐dielectric metasurfaces, enabling transverse magnetic (TM)‐selective excitation with ultrahigh quality factors and wide‐angle‐stable polarisation‐dependent near‐field imaging.

The investigation of the Kondo lattice system CeB6${\rm CeB}_6$ by highly surface sensitive techniques is hampered by difficulties in preparing well‐ordered, atomically flat surfaces. The richness of possible surface terminations and their impact on spectroscopic STM results are discussed.
