Active Switching of Extremely High-Q Fano Resonances Using Vanadium Oxide-Implanted Terahertz Metamaterials

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this paper, we demonstrate an active switching of extremely high Q-factor Fano resonances using vanadium oxide (VO2)-implanted THz asymmetric double C-shaped metamaterial (MM) structures.

Fano-Feshbach resonances in two-channel scattering around exceptional points

open access: yes, 2014
It is well known that in open quantum systems resonances can coalesce at an exceptional point, where both the energies {\em and} the wave functions coincide. In contrast to the usual behaviour of the scattering amplitude at one resonance, the coalescence

Engineering Fano resonances in discrete arrays [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
We study transmission properties of discrete arrays composed of a linear waveguide coupled to a system of side defect states. This simple system can be used to model discrete networks of coupled defect modes in photonic crystals, complex waveguide arrays in two-dimensional nonlinear lattices, and ring-resonator structures.

Toroidal‐Dipole‐Driven Polarization‐Selective Quasi‐BICs Enabling Wide‐Angle Near‐Field Image Display in Dielectric Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This study presents toroidal‐dipole (TD)‐driven polarisation‐selective quasi‐bound states in the continuum (quasi‐BICs) in all‐dielectric metasurfaces, enabling transverse magnetic (TM)‐selective excitation with ultrahigh quality factors and wide‐angle‐stable polarisation‐dependent near‐field imaging.

Steps and dips in the ac conductance and noise of mesoscopic structures

open access: yes, 2006
The frequency dependence of the equilibrium ac conductance (or the noise power spectrum) through a mesoscopic structure is shown to exhibit steps and dips.

Surface Properties of CeB6 and Challenges in Surface Preparation Revealed by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
The investigation of the Kondo lattice system CeB6${\rm CeB}_6$ by highly surface sensitive techniques is hampered by difficulties in preparing well‐ordered, atomically flat surfaces. The richness of possible surface terminations and their impact on spectroscopic STM results are discussed.

Fano resonances as a probe of phase coherence in quantum dots

open access: yes, 2001
In the presence of direct trajectories connecting source and drain contacts, the conductance of a quantum dot may exhibit resonances of the Fano type. Since Fano resonances result from the interference of two transmission pathways, their lineshape (as ...

Anisotropy-induced Fano resonance

open access: yes, 2012
An optical Fano resonance, which is caused by birefringence control rather than frequency selection, is discovered. Such birefringence-induced Fano resonance comes with fast-switching radiation. The resonance condition $\varepsilon_t< 1/\varepsilon_r$ is revealed and a tiny perturbation in birefringence is found to result in a giant switch in the ...

Hydrogen Halide Gas Sensors: Active Materials, Operation Principles, and Emerging Technologies

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
This review considers hydrogen halide (HX) gas sensors across functional materials and principles: acoustic, chemical, optical and nanophotonic. The strong acidity and reactivity of HX gases are discussed as constraints for stability and selectivity of these devices.

Multiple Fano Resonances Based on Plasmonic Resonator System With End-Coupled Cavities for High-Performance Nanosensor

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
A plasmonic resonator system composed of a metal-insulator-metal waveguide coupled with a disk and a ring cavity was proposed to produce double Fano resonances, which resulted from the coupling between the narrow discrete resonances of the ring cavity ...
