Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

The Extreme Faraday Effect in Fast Radio Bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are a type of highly polarized, millisecond-duration electromagnetic pulse in the radio band, which is mostly produced at cosmological distances.

Nd3-xBixFe4GaO12 (x = 2, 2.5) films on glass substrates prepared by MOD method

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
We studied Nd3-XBiXFe4GaO12 films to obtain perpendicular magnetic anisotropy as well as large Faraday effect. NdBi2Fe4GaO12 (Bi2:NIGG) and Nd0.5Bi2.5Fe4GaO12 (Bi2.5:NIGG) films were obtained on Nd2BiFe4GaO12 (Bi1:NIGG) layer prepared on glass substrates

The Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect and Faraday rotation contributions of galaxy groups to the CMB angular power spectrum

open access: yes, 2008
The S-Z effect and Faraday rotation from halos are examined over a wide mass range, an including gas condensation and magnetic field evolution. Contributions to the CMB angular power spectrum are evaluated for galaxy clusters, galaxy groups and galaxies.

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Behavioral study of selected microorganisms in an aqueous electrohydrodynamic liquid bridge

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2017
An aqueous electrohydrodynamic (EHD) floating liquid bridge is a unique environment for studying the influence of protonic currents (mA cm−2) in strong DC electric fields (kV cm−1) on the behavior of microorganisms. It forms in between two beakers filled

Periodic reversal of magneto-optic Faraday rotation on uniaxial birefringence crystal with ultrathin magnetic films

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2013
An experimental approach of inclined incidence magneto-optic Faraday effect observed in the polar plane is applied. Three samples containing ferromagnetic cobalt ultrathin films on a semiconductor zinc oxide (0001) single crystal substrate with in-plane ...

Asymmetric transmission of light through a planar chiral metamaterial

open access: yes, 2007
We report that normal incidence transmission of circularly polarized light through lossy anisotropic planar chiral meta-material is asymmetric for opposite directions.

Manipulation of Giant Faraday Rotation in Graphene Metasurfaces

open access: yes, 2012
Faraday rotation is a fundamental magneto-optical phenomenon used in various optical control and magnetic field sensing techniques. Recently, it was shown that a giant Faraday rotation can be achieved in the low-THz regime by a single monoatomic graphene
