Effect of paramagnetic magnetization in Faraday isolators

Applied Optics, 2012
The influence of paramagnetic magnetization of magneto-optical elements on the characteristics of Faraday isolators is studied. The theoretical estimates confirmed by the experiment indicate that this effect should be taken into consideration, particularly when designing large-aperture and cryogenic Faraday isolators.

Wavelength-independent Faraday isolator

open access: closedApplied Optics, 1989
A wavelength independent Faraday isolator has been built using an optically active rotator to compensate the dispersion of a 45 degrees Faraday rotator. Its isolation is better than 30 dB from 735 to 870 nm. Over this wavelength range the measured transmission in the forward direction is better than 80%.

Nonorthogonally magnetised permanent-magnet Faraday isolators

open access: closedQuantum Electronics, 2011
This paper describes a novel configuration of permanent-magnet magnetic systems for high-power Faraday isolators that are used in high-power lasers. An increase in magnetic field is ensured by magnets with a magnetisation vector inclined to the isolator axis.

Faraday Isolator for Square-Shaped Laser Beams

open access: closedAdvanced Solid-State Lasers Congress, 2013
New design of Faraday isolator for square laser beam was proposed. Magnetooptical element and aperture of magnetic system has square shape in this device. Several advantages of such isolators were investigated.

In-vacuum optical isolation changes by heating in a Faraday isolator

Applied Optics, 2008
We describe a model evaluating changes in the optical isolation of a Faraday isolator when passing from air to vacuum in terms of different thermal effects in the crystal. The changes are particularly significant in the crystal thermal lensing (refraction index and thermal expansion) and in its Verdet constant and can be ascribed to the less efficient ...

Fiber Faraday circulator or isolator

Optics Letters, 1981
We demonstrate a Faraday circulator or isolator that uses a silica-core, single-mode, birefringent fiber as the active medium and small permanent magnets for the magnetic field. Circulators were constructed for wavelengths of 632.8 and 830 nm using about 2 m of fiber.

A perspective on Faraday isolators for advanced lasers

Applied Physics Letters, 2023
Advances in the development of lasers with high output power raise the problem of increasing the operating power of Faraday isolators, since these devices can be indispensable in a number of applications. Due to the relatively high absorption of laser radiation in magneto-active media that are the basis of isolators, their use in laser systems is ...

Faraday Isolator with Composite Magnetooptical Elements

2021 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2021
The creation of Faraday isolators (FI) ensuring a low level of thermally induced distortions for operation at high-power radiation is one of the topical tasks in laser physics. The authors of [1] proposed to separate a magnetooptical element (MOE) into thin disks and cool the optical surfaces by cold gas flows but it requires sophisticated equipment ...

Cryogenic Faraday isolator

Quantum Electronics, 2010
A Faraday isolator is described in which thermal effects are suppressed by cooling down to liquid nitrogen temperatures. The principal scheme, main characteristics and modifications of the isolator are presented. The isolation degree is studied experimentally for the subkilowatt average laser radiation power.

A Faraday isolator based on graphene

Optik, 2017
Abstract A Faraday isolator based on magnetically biased graphene is proposed and analyzed. The isolator consists of two rectangular waveguides, two circular-rectangular transitions and a circular cylindrical waveguide loaded multiple graphene sheets, with a static magnetic field which parallel to the signal transmission direction biased.
