Making space for living and livelihoods in Vietnam: The everyday politics of peri‐urban land use

open access: yesSingapore Journal of Tropical Geography, EarlyView.
Preserving agricultural land for rice cultivation in Vietnam is a national priority. Yet in many areas, farmers continue to repurpose rice land for non‐agricultural uses in violation of state regulations. Drawing on the conceptual framework of ‘everyday politics’ (EP), this paper examines this tension through research conducted in two peri‐urban ...

Steril fisk – løsningen på rømmingsproblemet : Sterile fish – the solution to the problem of escapees?

open access: yes, 2009
Both the authorities and fish farmers are currently working hard to make it more difficult for fish to escape from cages. However, we know that it will hardly be possible to prevent all escapes.

Hunting and Hauora: Pig Hunters and Poaka in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 2, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Though invasive, wild pigs (poaka) were fundamental to the survival of both Māori and Pākehā during colonisation, and they remain an essential source of kai (sustenance) today. Utilising a Whanganui case study, 24 participants, semi‐structured interviews, and thematic analysis guided by Kaupapa Māori principles, describe hunters' interests in ...

Empowerment or Dependence? Questioning the Long‐Term Effectiveness of Rural Financial Services in Bangladesh

open access: yesSociological Inquiry, Volume 96, Issue 3, August 2026.
Development interventions, specifically rural financial services, seek to bring positive changes in traditional rural agrarian contexts. However, short‐sighted interventions can cause long‐term societal, environmental, and economic challenges. Drawing insights from long‐term ethnographic research on the social and economic implications of rural ...

Prediction of the Potential Distribution of Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) and Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris) in Iran Under Future Climate Scenarios

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Predicting waterbird habitat changes under future climate scenarios. ABSTRACT Climate change is reshaping ecological communities worldwide, altering species distributions, abundance, and habitat suitability. We modelled the potential distribution of two duck species, the Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) and the Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris),

Oppdrettstorsken trenger ikke rømme for å spre sine gener : Farmed cod do not need to escape to spread their genes

open access: yes, 2008
Escaped farmed salmon that mix with wild fish have recently received a good deal of attention. But cod, our next important farmed species, can spread its genetic material without even escaping, since they spawn inside their sea-cages.

Nanofibrous Bio‐Textile From Tilapia Fish Gelatin Prepared Using Alternating Field Electrospinning

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 25, 3 July 2026.
Warm‐water fish gelatin nanofibrous nonwovens (W‐FGel “bio‐textile”) are fabricated using alternating field electrospinning (AFES) at productivities up to 5.4 g∙h−1. The average fiber diameter varies in the range of 85 ± 21–240 ± 74 nm depending on the acetic acid–water ratio in the precursor solution.

Maternal effects on oocyte quality in farmed Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus L.)

open access: yes, 2013
Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) oocyte quality is highly variable and one of the major bottlenecks during fry-production for on-growth in commercial Atlantic halibut farming.

Linking seaweed farming with coral restoration: Bioremediation boosts early coral survivorship

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 7, July 2026.
These findings improve our understanding of seaweed cultivation on coral reefs, highlighting the ways in which farmed seaweed can improve water quality and enhance early coral survival. Linking coral restoration with a commercially viable seaweed industry creates a scalable, market‐driven mechanism to overcome costly post‐settlement survival ...
