Broiler farm size in relation tot sustainability aspects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the Netherlands the number of broiler farms has been reduced by 50%, while farm size doubled between 1990 and 2008. A debate on the positive and negative aspects of large farms emerge.

Selective Deposition of Charged Droplets for Programmable and Rewritable Printing of Patterned Microstructure Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A residual‐charge‐induced electric field control (SDREC) strategy enables the fabrication of patterned microstructure arrays with a resolution of 20 µm via the selective deposition of charged droplets. The resulting arrays exhibit reversible writing/erasing, optical encryption, and selective silver electrode formation, offering a versatile route to ...

Sertoli Cell‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Orchestrate Cadmium‐Induced Testicular Inflammation and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Environmental cadmium exposure disrupts testicular homeostasis through a novel intercellular communication axis. Stressed Sertoli cells release extracellular vesicles carrying damage‐associated molecular patterns and mitochondrial fragments, which activate macrophages via TLR4/NF‐κB signaling.

Effect of farming system changes on life cycle assessment indicators for dairy farms in the Italian Alps. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In some Alpine areas dairy farming is going through a process of intensification with significant changes in farming systems. The aim of this study was to investigate environmental performance of a sample of 31 dairy farms in an Alpine area of Lombardy ...

The Faraday Scalpel: Electrochemical Nerve Lesioning Mechanisms Studied in Invertebrate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Direct‐current produces nerve lesioning through discrete electrochemical reactions. Using hypoxia‐sensitive locust nerves and hypoxia‐tolerant leech nerves, we map three injury pathways: cathodic oxygen reduction, cathodic alkalization, and anodic chloride oxidation. These findings establish electrochemical lesioning—the “Faraday Scalpel”—as a precise,

U.S. Small Farms: Decline and Persistence? [PDF]

open access: yes
We use two comprehensive and representative USDA databases to assess the performance of small farms in the U.S. Farm production is shifting to much larger farms, and the number of small commercial farms is declining. Most large U.S.

Impact of the drought on the fodder self-sufficiency of organic and conventional highland dairy farms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Eight highland dairy farms in the French Massif Central (4 organic and 4 conventional) were surveyed from 2000 to 2005 to understand the forage system functioning and the specificities of organic farms. During this period two important droughts occurred,

Multi‐Omics Insights Into the Mechanisms of Early Muscle Fiber Difference and Transformation Between Lean‐Type and Chinese Indigenous Pigs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analyses uncover breed‐specific cis‐regulatory landscapes and higher‐order chromatin architectural differences that underlie early postnatal muscle fiber divergence in pigs. A super‐enhancer upstream of PPP3CB recruits MEF2C to activate PPP3CB transcription, while the PPP3CB–MEF2C positive feedback loop promotes oxidative muscle fiber ...
