Does Aromaticity Drive Metal Cation Binding to Nanographenes? Insights Into Regioselectivity and Cation‐π$$ \pi $$ Bonding

open access: yesJournal of Computational Chemistry, Volume 47, Issue 10, 15 April 2026.
Aromaticity of a ring by itself does not explain the binding energies of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations with nanographenes, but when combined with the Fukui function, it does. ABSTRACT Nanographenes, a subclass of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), have attracted significant interest due to their unique electronic properties and broad ...

Using quantum key distribution for cryptographic purposes: a survey

open access: yes, 2014
The appealing feature of quantum key distribution (QKD), from a cryptographic viewpoint, is the ability to prove the information-theoretic security (ITS) of the established keys. As a key establishment primitive, QKD however does not provide a standalone

Synthesis, Structure, and Thin Film Optical Properties of a Chiral Benzothiazole‐Derived Squaraine

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Solution‐processed thin films can be sensitive to the choice of solvent and thermal annealing, which we explore for a chiral benzothiazole squaraine. We observe peculiarly shaped excitonic circular dichroism in uniaxially anisotropic thin films, in which the presumed Davydov bands are spatially distributed exclusively into in‐plane (UDC) and out‐of ...

Backbone Heterojunction Photocatalysts for Efficient Sacrificial Hydrogen Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 29, 9 April 2026.
Herein, a ‘single‐component’ organic semiconductor photocatalyst is presented in which a molecular donor is bonded to a polymer acceptor. The resultant material demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in aqueous triethylamine with an outstanding external quantum efficiency of 38% at 420 nm.

Assessing security of some group based cryptosystems

open access: yes, 2003
One of the possible generalizations of the discrete logarithm problem to arbitrary groups is the so-called conjugacy search problem (sometimes erroneously called just the conjugacy problem): given two elements a, b of a group G and the information that a^

Using shifted conjugacy in braid-based cryptography

open access: yes, 2006
Conjugacy is not the only possible primitive for designing braid-based protocols. To illustrate this principle, we describe a Fiat--Shamir-style authentication protocol that be can be implemented using any binary operation that satisfies the left self ...
