Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Low testosterone level increases fasting blood glucose level in adult males [PDF]

open access: yesUniversa Medicina, 2012
Background Total testosterone (TT) levels in males decrease with age. There has been a vigorous debate on the extent to which low testosterone causally contributes to diabetes and its complications.

A Hepatocyte FOXN3-α Cell Glucagon Axis Regulates Fasting Glucose

open access: yesCell Reports, 2018
Summary: The common genetic variation at rs8004664 in the FOXN3 gene is independently and significantly associated with fasting blood glucose, but not insulin, in non-diabetic humans.

Impact of prenatal famine exposure on adulthood fasting blood glucose level

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In the past decade, in low-income countries, there have been a rapid rise in prevalence of diabetes among adult population. Hence, understanding the context specific drivers of this change including the impacts of childhood nutrition adversaries on adult

Panax ginseng has no effect on indices of glucose regulation following acute or chronic ingestion in healthy volunteers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the absence of effective pharmacotherapy for diabetes there has been an increase in the use of, and research into, alternative treatment strategies. These include exercise, dietary interventions and the use of supplements including extracts of ginseng.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Postprandial Blood Glucose can be less than Fasting Blood Glucose and this is not a Laboratory Error

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2019
Higher fasting blood glucose level than post prandial level can be seen in variety of conditions in both normal population and diabetics. Various modifiable factors along with underlying condition of patient behind such laboratory picture are discussed ...

Development and Validation of a Tool for Assessing Glucose Impairment in Adolescents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
INTRODUCTION: Childhood obesity is associated with an increased risk for type 2 diabetes. Early identification of adolescents at risk for impaired fasting blood glucose may lead to earlier and more comprehensive evaluation and intervention.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Are glucose profiles well-controlled within the targets recommended by the International Diabetes Federation in type 2 diabetes? A meta-analysis of results from continuous glucose monitoring based studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
