Feeding Habits of the Smallscale Fat Snook from East‐Central Florida
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 2014AbstractIn general, snook Centropomus spp. are opportunistic carnivores, feeding on fish and crustaceans, as shown by other studies on diets of centropomids in the western Atlantic Ocean. Diet studies for centropomids in Florida refer only to a description of the diet and the ontogenetic shifts in prey preferences of Common Snook C.

Multiple spawning of the fat snook Centropomus parallelus using different dosages of LHRH
2008The present experiment studied the effect of different LHRHa doses and multiple inductions to obtain consecutive spawnings in one reproductive season of the female fat snook Centropomus parallelus. The LHRHa hormone was administered in cholesterol pellets. Five induction cycles were carried out, with 16 females and 32 males induced per cycle.

The tropical fat snook Centropomus parallelus is a species of recognized ecological importance and with a high economical potential for fisheries and aquaculture. The investigations of digestive tube morphology in association with their feeding abilities are fundamental to improve techniques for aquaculture feeding procedures.

The objective of this work was to determine hematological parameters and the phagocytic capacity of peritoneal macrophages of the fat snook related to sex, stage of gonadal maturation and seasonal cycle. The hematological results did not show significant differences between males and females.

In this study, we evaluated the effect of diets with various concentrations of estradiol-17β (E2) on the feminization, growth and survival of juvenile fat snook. Over a 45-day period, the juveniles were fed with five diets containing 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg E2/kg feed. Three replicates were run for each diet.

The patterns of genetic variation in a fragment of the cytochrome b mtDNA gene in 130 individuals of the fat snook (Centropomus parallelus) did not show evidence of genetic differentiation along the Brazilian coast as shown in F‐statistics and AMOVA analyses, indicating the existence of high gene flow among the studied populations.

The effect of salinity on survival, growth and activity of digestive enzymes was evaluated in the fat snook (Centropomus parallelus). Juveniles of 76 days after hatching (0.35 g) were reared at 5, 15 and 35 ppt, in triplicate, for 50 days, at 0.6 fish/l.

Abstract Fat snook Centropomus parallelus is one of marine finfish species with farm potential in Brazil, although some adjustments in farm practices are required to optimize its production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different stocking densities and vertical substrate addition on growth, survival and health status, such as ...

Abstract High-quality live food is essential for reducing the frequent high mortality of newly hatched fat snook ( Centropomus parallelus ) larvae in hatcheries. Copepods, a rich nutrition source, cultivated with the microalgae Chaetoceros muelleri and Isochrysis galbana , were evaluated as food for 0–14-day-old larvae.
