Fine‐Tuned Regulation of mRNA Translation and Transport by STAU2 Condensate Facilitates Neuronal Development and Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STAU2 undergoes phase separation to form dynamic condensates that package target mRNAs and deliver them to the distal ends of growing neuronal dendrites. STAU2 condensates stabilize embedded mRNAs and repress their translation. Synaptic activity bidirectionally remodels STAU2 condensates, coordinating local translation of STAU2‐associated mRNAs ...

Phase Fraction Modulation Enhances Li+/Na+ Diffusion Disparity in Spent LiFePO4 Cathodes for Efficient Lithium Extraction from Brine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A direct cascaded utilization strategy for spent LiFePO4 batteries efficiently extracts lithium from brine, embodying the “urban mining” concept. Phase fraction modulation revealed its significant impact on local bond lengths of crystal structure and the Li/Na diffusion energy barrier, identifying the best material (Li0.19FePO4) for lithium extraction.

Decoding the Mechanism of Action of a Parasite TGFβ Antagonist Inspires the Creation of Cell‐Type‐Specific TGFβ Modulators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mammalian TGFβ interacts with ubiquitously expressed TGFBR1 and TGFBR2, and current TGFβ‐targeting agents are non‐cell‐selective. The cooperative interaction of the modular parasite TGFβ antagonist with multiple host (co‐)receptors empowers the design of TGM chimeras and bispecific antibodies that activate or inhibit TGFβ signaling in a cell ...

The psychosocial barriers and enablers for managing growing up with an absent father

open access: yesHealth SA Gesondheid: Journal of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences
Background: This qualitative study was prompted by limited literature and knowledge around the psychosocial barriers associated with father absence among young women in South Africa and the enablers for overcoming these barriers.

Prmt6 Deficiency or Inhibition Restores Microglial Homeostasis and Promotes Scar‐Limited Repair in Adult Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
After spinal cord injury, adult microglia remain persistently activated with chronic PRMT6 (protein arginine methyltransferase 6) upregulation. Prmt6 deficiency or inhibition reestablishes microglial homeostasis and promotes a scar‐limited repairment, enhancing axonal regrowth.

Father absence and depressive symptoms in adolescence: findings from a UK cohort

open access: yes, 2013
Background Previous studies suggest a link between parental separation or divorce and risk of depression in adolescence. There are, however, few studies that have prospectively examined the effects of timing of biological father absence on risk for ...
