Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Study on crack propagation of 42CrMo

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2019
For the fatigue failure of 42CrMo, the tensile test was performed on the CT specimen at different load ratios using a fatigue tensile tester. Data on the fatigue crack growth rate of the material and the crack tip factor were obtained.

Multi-timescale analysis of fatigue crack growth on interfaces via cohesive-zone models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper describes a new non-linear finite-element formulation to analyse fatigue debonding or delamination, along predefined interfaces, which is multi-scale in time. At the small timescale level, cyclic loading and the related oscillating response are

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Crack initiation characteristics and fatigue property of a high-strength steel in VHCF regime under different stress ratios

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2015
Crack initiation characteristics and fatigue property of a high-strength steel in very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime under different stress ratios were investigated in this paper.

Effects of surface oxide layer on fatigue crack propagation properties of submicrometer-thick copper films

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
Fatigue failure involves fatigue crack initiation and propagation processes. In bulk metals, the fatigue crack initiation process is strongly affected by a dissimilar surface layer, while the fatigue crack propagation process is less affected.

Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Fretting Fatigue Behavior for Steel Q235 Single-Lap Bolted Joints

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
This work aims to investigate the fretting fatigue life and failure mode of steel Q235B plates in single-lap bolted joints. Ten specimens were prepared and tested to fit the S-N curve.

Fatigue Crack Control in Structural Details using surface peening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents an analytical and experimental study of crack shape evolution in steel plate specimens under cyclic loading. It is widely known that the introduction of compressive residual stresses by cold working the surface can be highly ...
