Influence of anodizing process on fatigue life of a machined aluminium alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In order to investigate the coupled effects of machining and anodizing processes on fatigue life of alloy 7010-T7451, a series of rotating bending fatigue tests were conducted at 60Hz.

Dual‐Mode Magnetic Elastomer for On‐Demand Motion and Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐mode magnetic elastomer is introduced, enabling DC field‐driven programmable actuation and AC field‐driven magnetothermal degradation. GHz‐range magnetic fields generate ultrafast heating of magnetic nanoparticles that activates cleavage of the silicone elastomer matrix.

Effect of manufacturing-induced microscopic surface defects on crack initiation and fatigue mechanisms in hot-dip galvanized steel

open access: yesResults in Materials
When designing against fatigue, the surface condition of steel is of utmost importance. Since hot-dip galvanizing is a surface treatment primarily aimed at preventing corrosion, it is critical to assess its influence on the fatigue properties of steel ...

Simulation of fatigue behaviour in fusion welded 2024-T351 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A model has been developed to predict short crack fatigue life in the fusion zone of Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welded 2024-T351, based on the observed propensity for complex, multiple cracking processes in this region.

Fatigue crack initiation in corroded offshore mooring chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Mooring chains on floating offshore structures suffer from combined degradation from corrosion and fatigue. Corrosion reduces cross-sectional areas of the chains and creates surface pits.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Fatigue Limit Doubling in High‐Strength Martensitic Steel through Crack Embryo Engineering–Cyclic‐Training‐Driven Self‐Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Achieving superior fracture resistance under cyclic loading–specifically, a high‐fatigue limit–is crucial for ensuring structural safety and supporting a sustainable society.

Interactions between geometrical defects and microstructure during high cycle fatigue of polycrystalline aluminium with different grain sizes

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
In this work, the influence of the geometrical defect size on the high cycle fatigue behavior of polycrystalline aluminium with different grain sizes is investigated, to better understand the role of internal length scales. Two sizes of grains and defect

Corrosion fatigue of a superduplex stainless steel weldment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Superduplex stainless steels have superior mechanical and corrosion properties compared to austenitic stainless steels such as the grade 300 series. This is a result of a microstructure consisting of roughly equal percentages of austenite (y) and ferrite
