Fatigue Reliability and Design

Journal of the Structural Division, 1974
At present, the fatigue provision in most design specifications in this country is based upon test data presented in the form of modified Goodman diagrams. The recent AISC specification is based upon a constant-range criterion. In any event, neither the randomness of fatigue lives nor that of applied loads is being considered.

Designing to Combat Fatigue

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1967
THE increasingly competitive nature of both the operational and manufacturing sides of the aviation business has had the effect of making the designer more conscious of the economic characteristics which he is building into his aircraft, and these have now become a major design consideration.

Fatigue Failure and Molecular Machine Design

Small, 2011
AbstractSophisticated molecular machines have evolved in nature, and the first synthetic molecular machines have been demonstrated. With our increasing understanding of individual operating cycles, the question of how operation can be sustained over many cycles comes to the forefront.

Fatigue in Engine Design

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1953
The difference in outlook between metallurgist, physicist and designer on the problem of fatigue of metals is due not only to the differences in training and method but also in immediate objective, however closely their ultimate objectives may coincide.Physicists consider fatigue in terms of crystal structure and composition of the constituents of the ...

Fatigue in Aircraft Design

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1953
The problem of fatigue in aircraft design is a comparatively new one so far as the airframe designer is concerned. There are three main reasons for its prominence. Firstly, the utilisation rate has increased enormously, particularly with transport types; indeed, the hours flown by a civil aeroplane in a single year nowadays far exceed those in the ...

Design for Fatigue Resistance

1997
Abstract The design of components against fatigue failure may involve several considerations of irregular loading, variable temperature, and environment. This article focuses on design considerations against fatigue related to material performance under mechanical loading at constant temperature.
