Low cycle fatigue life improvement of AISI 304 by initial and intermittent wire brush hammering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effects of hammering by wire brush as a method of improving low cycle fatigue life of highly ductile austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 have been investigated through an experimental study combining imposed strain fatigue tests and assessment of ...

Fatigue life prediction in composites [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1994
Because of the relatively large number of possible failure mechanisms in fibre reinforced composite materials, the prediction of fatigue life in a component is not a simple process. Several mathematical and statistical models have been proposed, but the experimental evidence to support them is limited so far.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

MODELLING OF STRESS GRADIENT EFFECT ON FATIGUE LIFE USING WEIBULL BASED DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the present paper, a new approach is developed in order to take into account the stress gradient effect on fatigue life of structural components. The proposed approach is based on the weakest link concept in which the shape coefficient of the Weibull ...

Fatigue crack growth behaviour and life prediction for 2324-T39 and 7050-T7451 aluminium alloys under truncated load spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a study of crack growth behaviour in aluminium alloys 2324- T39 and 7050-T7451 subjected to flight-by-flight load spectra at different low- stress truncation levels. Crack branching was observed in the higher truncation levels for the

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Bump extraction algorithm for variable amplitude fatigue loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents the development of a fatigue mission synthesis algorithm, called Wavelet Bump Extraction (WBE), for summarising long records of fatigue road load data.

Artificial Intelligence and Mental Well‐Being in Adult Education: Implications for Practice and Professional Responsibility

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mental well‐being is central to adult learner success, yet many adult education institutions lack capacity to provide timely and accessible support. This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI) can strengthen mental health–adjacent supports in adult and continuing higher education, with attention to professional practice and ...

Fatigue tests and fatigue-life prediction models for hybrid welded-bolted demountable shear connectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Four push out tests were conducted to assess the structural performance of a welded demountable shear connector (WDSC) under high-cycle fatigue loading. The primary failure mode observed was stud fracture at the base.

An Entropy-Based Neighborhood Rough Set and PSO-SVRM Model for Fatigue Life Prediction of Titanium Alloy Welded Joints

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
In order to obtain comprehensive assessment of the factors influencing fatigue life and to further improve the accuracy of fatigue life prediction of welded joints, soft computing methods, including entropy-based neighborhood rough set reduction ...
