Product Reliability and Random Fatigue

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1971
The fatigue life of a mechanical component in a conventional ional test situation depends upon the stress amplitude. A change in the stress amplitude during a laboratory test-program involves a consideration of the damage produced by each stress cycle imposed upon the test specimen.

Fatigue Reliability Assessment Using FORM

49th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
16th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
10t, 2008
#An efficient method for time-dependent fatigue reliability analysis is proposed in this paper based on a random process representation of material fatigue properties and a nonlinear damage accumulation rule. The proposed method uses the first-order reliability method (FORM) to calculate the reliability index based on a time-dependent limit state ...

Load combination and related fatigue reliability problems

Structural Safety, 1993
Abstract After a general formulation for the load combination problem is sketched, attention is focused on the practical rules to be used in structural design. Three main aspects are found to require further developments: 1. 1. the flexibility of the combination rule to incorporate special situations; 2. 2. the load factor calibration; 3.

Reliability of Concentric Ankle Dorsiflexion Fatigue Testing

Canadian Journal of Applied Physiology, 2002
The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of an isokinetic test for ankle dorsiflexion fatigue on a Biodex dynamometer. Young (21 to 32 years), recreationally active men (n = 10) and women (n = 10) performed 50 concentric (60 • s−1) dorsiflexion contractions, on two different occasions.

FATIGUE RELIABILITY FORMULATION AND ANALYSIS

CYCLES is a computer program that computes the fatigue reliability of mechanical components. It includes a rather flexible model of uncertainty, both in distribution parameters of randomly varying quantities (e.g., load environment parameters such as wave height) and in uncertain material properties (e.g .. S-N fatigue properties).

Fatigue Reliability of Parallel Member Systems

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1984
A method is developed for calculating the probability of progressive collapse due to fatigue for structural systems in which members are connected in parallel and for parallel member systems connected in series. Formulation of the method is “exact” and is based on the assumptions of equal member load sharing and identically distributed fatigue lives ...

Fatigue Reliability: Variable Amplitude Loading

Journal of the Structural Division, 1982
Models which designers use to predict fatigue under variable amplitude and random loading are summarized. Basic terminology associated with random process theory is presented. Models for computing fatigue damage associated with various statistical distributrions of stress ranges are reviewed.

Fatigue Reliability of Ferrocement Slabs

ACI Structural Journal, 1991
A simple probabilistic approach to fatigue-strength studies for ferrocement slabs is presented, supplemented by the relevant statistics obtained from a preliminary experimental program. Unlike conventional fatigue-strength studies where the specimens are cyclically loaded to a failure, the approach employed here involves obtaining the residual strength

Fatigue Reliability for Offshore Structures

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1984
The results of a four‐year project, sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute, to investigate the fatigue design process in the welded joints of steel offshore structures are summarized. Fatigue damage expressions were formulated. A simple analytical expression for damage based on the rainflow method of cycle counting in a wide band process was ...
