Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Multiaxial Fatigue Damage Analysis of Steel–Concrete Composite Beam Based on the Smith–Watson–Topper Parameter

open access: yesBuildings
The fatigue performance of steel–concrete composite beams is crucial for ensuring structural safety. To account for the member’s multiaxial stress state, this study employed the critical surface method, using fatigue damage parameters as an evaluation ...

Suppression of Fatigue Crack Propagation of Duralumin by Cavitation Peening

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2015
It was demonstrated in the present paper that cavitation peening which is one of the mechanical surface modification technique can suppress fatigue crack propagation in duralumin.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Biomechanical Evaluation of a Novel Non-Engaging Abutment and Screw in Internal Implant Systems: Comparative Fatigue and Load Testing

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials
Dental implants rely on precise prosthetic design and biomechanical stability to ensure long-term success. This study evaluates the mechanical performance of non-engaging abutments in multi-unit combined screw- and cement-retained prostheses (CSCRP ...

Estimating the fatigue law of asphalt mixtures using a strain sweep test (EBADE test) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Fatigue characterization of asphalt mixtures is a very important issue. However, existing techniques to that end are expensive and time consuming. For that reason the asphalt technicians have been studying several different methods to reduce the testing ...

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Fatigue delamination behaviour of unidirectional carbon fibre/epoxy laminates reinforced by Z-Fiber® pinnin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
-Pin reinforced carbon-fibre epoxy laminates were tested under Mode I and Mode II conditions, both quasi-statically and in fatigue. Test procedures were adapted from existing standard or pre-standard tests. Samples containing 2% and 4% areal densities
