Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Quasi-Static and Fatigue Strength of Copper-Brazed Stainless Steel

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study investigates the quasi-static and fatigue strength of copper-brazed 316L stainless steel. Quasi-static and fatigue tests were conducted at room temperature (20 °C) using a Zwick/Roell Vibrophore 100 testing machine and specially designed ...

Mechanics of fretting fatigue tests

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1987
A popular fretting fatigue test, in which oscillating tension is applied in phase with the fretting force, is analyzed. The configuration is a generalization of the well-known Mindlin contact problem, and it is shown that the addition of bulk tension has a substantial effect on the stick- slip geometry and the shear traction at the interface.

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.

Improved resonance method for fatigue test of full-scale wind turbine blades

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
To further reduce the power of exciter in the common fatigue testing methods and increase the testing frequency to decrease the fatigue testing time, this paper proposes an improved fatigue testing method—Tug Fatigue Testing system (TFTs). The advantages

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Efficient Reconstruction of High-Resolution Tidal Turbine Blade Deflection and Strain Maps Through Sensing Location Optimisation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
During fatigue tests of tidal turbine blades, digital image correlation (DIC) is used to collect vital information about the specimen. DIC provides high-resolution displacement and strain maps of selected blade sections; however, continuous operation is ...

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles
