Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...

The protection of the unsaturated fatty acids of dried grass and sunflower seed against biohydrogenation by rumen micro-organisms : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Agricultural Science in Animal Science at Massey University [PDF]
Ryegrass which had been dried and treated with HCHO was incubated with the rumen contents of a pasture-grazed cow. The protein in the grass was protected from degradation by the rumen microbes.

Central Dysmyelination in SSADH‐Deficient Humans and Mice
ABSTRACT Objectives Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD) is an inherited metabolic disorder characterized by an accumulation of γ‐aminobutyric (GABA). In addition to its synaptic role as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA also plays an important role in myelination.

: Interactions between rumen microorganisms and their metabolites contribute to milk yield and milk fat content in dairy cows. However, whether rumen microbes and host metabolism affect fatty acid synthesis in milk is unknown.

ABSTRACT Objective Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) comprises rare genetic disorders characterized by predominantly extrapyramidal symptoms and iron deposition in the basal ganglia. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detects qualitative changes but cannot accurately quantify iron accumulation. Quantitative susceptibility

Summary: It is well understood that fatty acids can be synthesized, imported, and modified to meet requisite demands in cells. However, following the movement of fatty acids through the multiplicity of these metabolic steps has remained difficult.

Experimental and modeling studies on the synthesis and properties of higher fatty esters of corn starch [PDF]
This paper describes a systematic study on the synthesis of higher fatty esters of corn starch (starch laurate and starch stéarate) by using the corresponding vinyl esters.

Effects of Cyclodextrins on Fatty Acid Synthesis
Abstract The stimulatory effects of the mycobacterial polysaccharides MMP (3-O-methylmannose containing polysaccharide) or MGLP (lipopolysaccharide containing 6-O-methylglucose and glucose) on the activity of the fatty acid synthetase from Mycobacterium phlei are mimicked by α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins in the order α g β g γ. Methylation to the hexakis

The invasive pest Halyomorpha halys causes significant crop losses requiring innovative pest control strategies such as RNA interference (RNAi). However, oral RNAi is largely ineffective in H. halys. This study shows that double‐stranded DNA (dsDNA) stabilizes dsRNA in saliva by inhibiting a highly expressed nuclease.

HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors perturb fatty acid metabolism and induce peroxisomes in keratinocytes.
Topical lovastatin stimulates epidermal fatty acid synthesis in vivo; therefore, studies were undertaken to examine the effects of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors on fatty acid metabolism in cultured keratinocytes.
