A problem of riches: towards a new social policy research agenda on the distribution of economic resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The distribution of economic resources in society is a central concern for social policy. But research in this area has primarily concentrated on the bottom of the economic distribution, namely ‘the poor’.

Observer‐Based Adaptive Event‐Triggered Tracking Control for Fuzzy TS Systems With Premise Mismatch

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper presents an adaptive logistic event‐triggered observer‐based tracking controller for Takagi‐Sugeno fuzzy systems under constrained inputs and network delays. Leveraging a hybrid LMI and Secretary Bird Optimization approach, this strategy significantly minimizes communication overhead and computational burden while ensuring optimal reference ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Towards Solid-State Spin Based, High-Fidelity Quantum Computation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This thesis is divided into two parts. Both of them investigate current topics in quantum information processing. The first employs super-resolving stimulated emission depletion (STED) fluorescence microscopy for the characterization of solid-state spins

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

The source motion of 2003 Bam (Iran) earthquake constrained by satellite and ground-based geodetic data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
International audienceThe interpretation of coseismic surface deformation measurements through inversion techniques is of major importance to understand the mechanical behaviour of a seismic fault. Dense geodetic data sets in the vicinity of the ruptured

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Fault Tolerant Metric Dimensions of Leafless Cacti Graphs with Application in Supply Chain Management [PDF]

open access: yes
A resolving set for a simple graph $G$ is a subset of vertex set of $G$ such that it distinguishes all vertices of $G$ using the shortest distance from this subset. This subset is a metric basis if it is the smallest set with this property.

Optimization of Deep Belief Network Based on Sparrow Search Algorithm for Rolling Bearing Fault Diagnosis [PDF]

open access: yes
This study addresses the randomness of training parameters in the Deep Belief Network (DBN) and proposes an optimization method for rolling bearing fault diagnosis based on the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA).

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.
