Late quaternary activity characteristics of the Quzika-Jitang segment along the Lancangjiang fault zone, eastern Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The Lancangjiang fault zone (LCJFZ) is a major crustal-scale fault system that traverses the Sichuan-Tibet traffic corridor. Determining its late Quaternary activity is thus crucial for assessing seismic hazards and guiding the planning of this critical ...

Investigation of active tectonic evidence and characteristics of the Kushk fault zone and vulnerability of rural settlements, Qazvin province [PDF]

open access: yesمسکن و محیط روستا, 2022
This paper investigates the activity of Kushk fault through field observations of landslides related to the activity of the Kushk fault and other evidence of its activity, and the location of rural settlements in the study area of the Kushk fault has ...

Earthquake source parameters and fault kinematics in the Eastern California Shear Zone [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Based on waveform data from a profile of aftershocks following the north-south trace of the June 28, 1992 Landers rupture across the Mojave desert, we construct a new velocity model for the Mojave region which features a thin, slow crust.

Stress buildup in the Himalaya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The seismic cycle on a major fault involves long periods of elastic strain and stress accumulation, driven by aseismic ductile deformation at depth, ultimately released by sudden fault slip events. Coseismic slip distributions are generally heterogeneous

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Spatiotemporal characteristics of present-day horizontal deformation of the Yishu Fault Zone in Shandong, China

open access: yesGeocarto International
The Yishu Fault Zone in eastern China poses a significant seismic hazard, yet its current deformation characteristics are not well-understood. This study investigates the Ju County-Tancheng section, notable for diverse terrain and significant historical ...

Quantifying the slip rates, spatial distribution and evolution of active normal faults from geomorphic analysis: Field examples from an oblique-extensional graben, southern Turkey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Quantifying the extent to which geomorphic features can be used to extract tectonic signals is a key challenge in the Earth Sciences. Here we analyse the drainage patterns, geomorphic impact, and long profiles of bedrock rivers that drain across and ...

A decentralized fault-tolerant control scheme based on Active Fault Diagnosis [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE 55th Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2016
This paper deals with a decentralized faulttolerant control methodology based on an Active Fault Diagnosis approach. The proposed technique addresses the important problem of monitoring interconnected Large-Scale Systems (LSS). The fault diagnosis approach is made of a passive set-based fault detection method and an active fault isolation technique ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Seismic evidence of a link between subducted oceanic faults and volcanism: A case study from South Central Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The south-central Chilean subduction zone was investigated at 39-40°S by a passive seismic experiment. The investigation area comprises the maximum slip of the great 1960 Mw 9.5 Valdivia earthquake.
