IGBT Fault Current Limiting Circuit
IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 1995Circuits are proposed which, by limiting the fault current magnitude, extends the short-circuit withstand time of high-efficiency (high-gain) IGBTs (insulated-gate bipolar transistors). Limiting of the fault current magnitude also results in reduced turn-off voltage transients, a desirable byproduct, especially for higher current modules. Moreover, the

Nonsuperconducting Fault Current Limiter With Controlling the Magnitudes of Fault Currents
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2009In this paper, a diode-bridge-type nonsuperconductor fault current limiter (NSFCL) is proposed. The structure has the capability of controlling the DC reactor current that yields to control the magnitude of fault current. In order to control the magnitude of DC reactor current, a discharging resistor is used in the proposed structure.

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2018
This paper proposes the concept of “fault current limitation coordination” in a future electric power grid with multiple superconducting fault current limiters (SFCL). Not only the fault current limitation of each SFCL on a transmission line, but also the transient stability of the grid with SFCLs should be taken into account, because the disturbance ...

Superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) are used to limit the short-circuit current level in electrical transmission and distribution networks. Applications of SFCLs would not only decrease the stress on network devices, but also can offer a connection to improve the reliability of power system.

A Mutual-Inductance-Type Fault Current Limiter in MMC-HVDC Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2020Faults on the dc line threaten the stability and reliability of the modular-multilevel-converter-based HVDC (MMC-HVDC) systems. Fault current limiting is one of the crucial steps to handle the dc line fault.

A Multifunction High-Temperature Superconductive Power Flow Controller and Fault Current Limiter
IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2020This article presents a novel high-temperature superconductive (HTS) power flow controller and current limiter (PFCCL), which limits fault currents and manages power flow in the intended transmission line. The proposed device includes series HTS reactors,
