A novel improved combined Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) using Fault Current Limiter (FCL) structure

2007 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2007
The dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) as a means of series compensation for mitigating the effect of voltage sags has been established as a preferred approach for improving power quality at sensitive load locations. In this paper a novel structure for voltage sags mitigation and for power quality improvement are proposed.

Optimal Protection Coordination of Islanded Microgrids Utilizing an Adaptive Virtual Impedance Fault Current Limiter

2022 IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference (TPEC), 2022
Inverter-interfaced distributed generators (IIDGs) have limited fault current contributions compared to those of synchronous-based DGs. These low fault currents impose challenges on microgrid protection.

A Novel Fast Energy Storage Fault Current Limiter Topology for High-Voltage Direct Current Transmission System

IEEE transactions on power electronics, 2022
The traditional saturated core type fault current limiters (TFCLs) cause large energy absorption and high overvoltage in direct current circuit breakers (DCCBs).

Solid-State DC Circuit Breaker Based on HTS Fault Current Limiter and SiC MOSFET Modules

IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo, 2022
An improvement of the conventional solid state dc breaker (SSDCB) is developed for shipboard medium-voltage dc (MVDC) system protection. By combining a high temperature superconducting fault current limiter (HTS-FCL) with a SSDCB based on Slicon Carbide (

The Current-Diverting FCL-A Practical Solution to Fault Current Limiting

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1980
This paper is intended to bring to the attention of the electric power industry a practical means for achieving the benefits of fault-current limitation. This proposed scheme circumvents fundamental problems which have thus far prevented the realization of adequate, reliable fault limiters at high power voltage and current ratings.

Single AC/DC fault current limiter for both side of hybrid AC/DC microgrid

International Journal of Electronics, 2022
Increasing short-circuit fault currents is one of the critical challenges in microgrids (MGs). In this paper, a novel AC/DC fault current limiter (ADFCL) is proposed to limit short circuit current of both DC and AC sides in hybrid AC/DC MGs (ADMGs).

Fault Current Limitation by a Transformer Type FCL Based on the Second Generation HTS Wires

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2011
A transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (FCL) for electric power grids was developed utilizing a nonlinear resistor made of the second generation HTS wire. Using of the second generation HTS wire instead of the first one was found to reduce by an order the required amount of superconducting materials.

Topology Modeling and Design of a Novel Magnetic Coupling Fault Current Limiter for VSC DC Grids

IEEE transactions on power electronics, 2021
In a voltage-source converter dc grid, a dc fault current limiter (FCL) is a key apparatus. When faults occur, it is supposed to effectively and immediately suppress transient short-circuit current to protect other equipment, e.g., converters ...

Analysis of DC Fault and Current-limiting Capability of FCLs for VSC-based DC Distribution System

2019 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2019
DC distribution system has received wide interests for the higher efficiency and greater operational flexibility. However, DC fault current increases rapidly, which may cause IGBTs in converters to be blocked for self-protection. Fault current limiters (FCLs) are effective to limit the fault current in DC system.
