Incipient Fault Detection and Diagnosis: A hidden information detection problem

2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2015
In this paper, we propose an overview of the Fault Detection and Diagnosis concept as the detection and characterisation of a hidden information as usually addressed in Data Hiding approaches. In fact, on one side Fault Detection and Diagnosis is generally studied as the detection and characterization of changes (abrupt or not) in a signal describing ...

A Fault Detecting System of Intelligent Detection and Diagnosis

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
By testing the running gear system with fault, the vibration signals of gear system are acquired at different speeds. Using wavelet de-noising by threshold to extract the useful feature signals, combining time-frequency analysis with intelligence detection theory of wavelet analysis, the feature signals are decomposed into different frequency bands ...

Fault Detection, Diagnosis and Identification

1998
In this work we distinguish between two kind of faults: slowly changing and abrupt changing faults. The first often originate from wearing and the latter from a abrupt errors within the process control system. In practice, a supervision system has to deal simultaneously with both types of faults, but here we make a distinction because different methods

Fuzzy Model-Based Fault Detection and Diagnosis

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1996
Abstract A method of fault detection and diagnosis is presented which uses static fuzzy models to describe the behaviour of both correctly operating and faulty systems. Fault detection is based on two models of correct operation; one generic and the other specific.

Fault detection and diagnosis in rotating machinery

SMC'98 Conference Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (Cat. No.98CH36218), 2002
The detection and diagnosis of mechanical faults in rotating machinery using a model-based approach is studied. For certain types of faults, for example raceway faults in rolling element bearings, increase in mass unbalance and changes in stiffness and damping, algorithms suitable for real-time implementation are developed and tested.

Supervision, fault-detection and fault-diagnosis methods — An introduction

Control Engineering Practice, 1997
Abstract The operation of technical processes requires increasingly advanced supervision and fault diagnosis to improve reliability, safety and economy. This paper gives an introduction to the field of fault detection and diagnosis. It begins with a consideration of a knowledge-based procedure that is based on analytical and heuristic information ...

Data-Driven Process Monitoring, Fault Detection And Fault Diagnosis

2020
As the process control industry and production lines become highly complex and significantly invested with high-dimensional variables, process health monitoring attracts more attention from the domain experts and process operators. Since data is ubiquitous nowadays thanks to the advanced computer and communication technology, data-driven approaches are

Model-based fault-detection and diagnosis – status and applications

Annual Reviews in Control, 2004
Abstract For the improvement of reliability, safety and efficiency advanced methods of supervision, fault-detection and fault diagnosis become increasingly important for many technical processes. This holds especially for safety related processes like aircraft, trains, automobiles, power plants and chemical plants.

Fault Detection and Diagnosis for Aeronautic and Aerospace Missions

2010
The term Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) is a development of the term Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI). Generally speaking, FDD goes slightly further than FDI by including the possibility of estimating the effect of the fault and/or diagnosing the effect or severity of the fault.

Fault Detection and Diagnosis in Gas Turbines

Volume 5: Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; General, 1990
Modern military aircraft are fitted with Engine Monitoring Systems (EMS) which have the potential to provide maintenance personnel with valuable information for diagnosing engine faults and assessing engine condition. In this study, analytical redundancy methods have been applied to gas turbine engine transient data with the view to extracting the ...
