Fault ride-through capability for grid-supporting inverters

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016
Voltage control strategy has been observed as being more advantageous than current control strategy for microgrid applications where grid-connected and standalone operation of grid-supporting inverters are desired. Voltage control, however, limits the ability to directly control the inverter current.

Development of a Hybrid Cascaded Converter Based STATCOM With Reduced Switching Losses and Improved Fault Ride Through Capability

IEEE transactions on industry applications, 2021
This article develops a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) based on the hybrid cascaded converter which has the advantage of reduced number of power transistors and floating capacitors compared to the cascaded H-bridge converter.

Fault Ride-Through Analysis of Current- and Voltage-Source Models of Grid Supporting Inverter-Based Microgrid

IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2021
Withstanding fault is a crucial technical challenge for inverter-based systems. Evolving grid codes require microgrids to possess fault ride-through (FRT) capabilities and support the grid voltage recovery.

Fault Ride-Through Capability of Voltage-Controlled Inverters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2018
An auxiliary voltage controller is proposed for the fault ride-through (FRT) control of voltage-controlled inverters used in distributed energy resources. The proposed auxiliary controller can be added to different existing voltage control strategies with minimum or no need to alter the original structure of the voltage controller.

Second‐order sliding mode control of wind turbines to enhance the fault‐ride through capability under unbalanced grid faults

International journal of circuit theory and applications, 2021
The integration of wind generation to the grid is growing rapidly across the world. As a result, grid operators have introduced the so‐called grid codes (GC), which nowadays include a range of technical conditions and requirements, which wind generators ...

Fault ride-through of doubly-fed induction generators

2012 International Conference on Power, Signals, Controls and Computation, 2012
The aim of this paper is to explore the various dynamic controllers to enhance the fault ride-through (FRT) of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs). A wind farm of total capacity 9 MW is considered for the study. The flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controllers like Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) and Unified Power Flow Controllers (

A Megawatt Converter with Ride-Through Fault Capability

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1975
Protecting thyristors by means of fuses in electro-chemical rectifiers where more than 100 devices are used in a single unit may cause considerable service interruption when fuses open during temporary faults. This paper considers the thyristor and fuse ratings in conjunction with gate suppression techniques to achieve a protective system which allows ...
